Complaints and disciplinary processes

We recognise that sometimes things do go wrong and you may be dissatisfied with the service you receive from an AAT member or approved training provider.

Working with you to help find a resolution

We investigate any complaints and misconduct allegations against AAT members and AAT training providers. In certain situations it may be necessary to take disciplinary action against the member or training provider.

We have a quality assurance programme and regularly check our training providers and AAT members in practice to ensure that they continue to meet our high standards.

Important information about our investigation process

Our complaints investigation process is disciplinary in nature, and shouldn’t be considered a substitute to seeking redress or other damages through the courts. We cannot award financial compensation in resolution of a complaint.

Complaints about AAT approved training providers

We regularly check AAT approved training providers to ensure that they meet our rigorous standards. However, occasionally a student member may encounter a problem, or have a complaint that has not been addressed effectively.

Talk to your college or training provider in the first instance - they are there to support you, and should be able to address your complaint. If, after doing this, you are still unsatisfied, you can lodge an official complaint through AAT by:

  • Downloading and reading AAT’s complaints and appeals procedure (PDF)
  • Writing to our Membership Support department by post to tell us your concerns. Please provide as much information you can about the complaint, plus any steps you have taken to deal with it.

Complaints about AAT members

If you have received service from an AAT member in practice that does not meet the high standard you expect, please try to resolve your concerns with them in the first instance.

However, if they offer a resolution you are unhappy with, or don’t respond, you can lodge a complaint through AAT by contacting our Conduct and Compliance team on +44 (0)20 7397 3008 or aatstandards@aat.org.uk

If a complaint relates to misconduct, or we identify a breach of AAT regulations or guidance during the investigation, we will consider taking disciplinary action against the AAT member. In some cases, we may be able to act as conciliator between you and the AAT member under our conciliation guidelines.
