Council and Board Relationship

In September 2001 a new board structure was set up to streamline the decision making process enabling the Association to respond more quickly to changes in the external environment and to encourage the generation of new ideas.

Under the new structure the Boards are accountable to Council. They implement policy within a set framework and make decisions on expenditure within the resources allocated to them by Council.

Members' Services Board - formulates, implements and monitors policies to achieve the strategic aims and Business Plan objectives set by Council in serving the AAT community. Working to increase the status and recognition of the AAT and its membership.

Magazine Advisory Group - agrees an editorial policy and guidelines, and makes recommendations on any dispute or disagreement, arising from the interpretation or performance of the agreement.

Learning and Development Board - promotes lifelong learning and the provision of high-quality learning opportunities, qualifications and personal and professional development.
Education and Training Monitoring Panel - monitors the operation of the Education and Training Scheme and ensures the quality of all aspects of the system.

Regulation and Compliance Board - promotes and supervises the professionalism of the membership and their ethical conduct.
Licensing Panel - approves applications for licensed and registered self-employed that are not straightforward and monitors the scheme for members in practice.

Resources Board - ensures the effective and efficient use of the Association's resources.
Investment Panel - responsible for the effective and efficient management of AAT's surplus cash including the use of appropriate forms of investment.

Audit and Assurance Board - reviews on behalf of Council matters concerning accounting, financial reporting and internal control and risk assessment.

Strategic Advisory Workshop - aims to establish and maintain an effective framework within which Council can set and monitor strategy. SAW ensures that business risks are being identified and prioritised

Governance Panel - makes recommendations on appointments within the Council and appoints members of the Directorate. Will advise Council on governance issues.

Disciplinary Panel - determine a complaint, and following the finding of guilty or plea of guilty, decide the penalties and any related terms and conditions to be imposed in cases of misconduct by AAT Members, Affiliates or registered Students.
