“I’ve worked for the AAT since 1996, but during that time my health and mobility have declined due to the progression of multiple sclerosis.

In late 2006 it became apparent that I could no longer juggle a management job, working four days per week in the office, with my increased need for healthcare. The AAT kindly allowed me to move to a new role in January 2007, working two days a week in the office and three days at home, so that I could spend time during the day having physiotherapy at home, attend a disabled gym and attend the numerous hospital appointments I have each week.

Some of the work that I do in my current role can be done outside of core hours which means that I can organise work so that me being in, say, physiotherapy during the afternoon does not impact too much on the hours and tasks that I do.
The benefit of this working arrangement means that I don’t have to leave the office for medical appointments and means that during the day I’m able to manage my fatigue far better than if I worked in the office full-time.”
