About AAT qualifications
AAT courses bring employers immediate results
From their first day of training, AAT students learn practical accounting processes and important communication skills they can apply directly in the workplace, making them more rounded, effective and committed team players.
Our courses are also extremely flexible and open to all, regardless of age, experience or qualifications:
We have consulted extensively with businesses, industry and training experts to develop our qualifications, and we measure each qualification against the Qualification and Curriculum Authority's rigorous ethical and professional standards (the Scottish Qualification Authority, for Scottish qualifications). We review each syllabus regularly to ensure that it reflects the latest developments in accounting and financial legislation.
The AAT Accounting Qualification
This is the leading qualification for accounting technicians. It is split into three levels - each level is designed to develop a different set of skills, and counts as a qualification in its own right. Completing all three levels leads to the full AAT Accounting Qualification.

Level 2 Certificate: students learn processes relevant to finance administrators, including double entry bookkeeping; accounting systems; purchase, sales and general ledgers.
Level 3 Diploma: administrative and management processes relevant to finance officer roles, including preparing final accounts for small businesses; cost accounting recording;preparing reports and returns.
Level 4 Diploma: the skills necessary for a 'finance team leader' role: complex management accounting tasks; general management skills; drafting financial statements; specialisation in specific subject areas.
Some students with relevant work experience or qualifications may be eligible for exemptions, and can start studying the AAT Accounting Qualification at a higher level.
To find out which level a student should start at, we've designed AAT Skillcheck, a short online questionnaire that checks a potential student's level of skills and recommends a starting level.
