CPD - The personal route

The personal route is based on a four-step cycle that you should complete at least once every 12 months (twice for members in practice). The cycle will prompt you to:

  1. assess your learning and development needs for the year ahead
  2. plan the learning activity you will undertake during the year
  3. put your learning plan into action
  4. evaluate the outcomes of your learning at the end of the year.

This reflects the process we all go through - however formally or informally - to make sure we can keep doing our jobs effectively.

For example, if you assess your learning and development needs in your annual appraisal you can re-use that information in the CPD cycle.

You'll need to keep a record of the decisions you make as you work through each step of the cycle. You should also retain relevant evidence, such as course attendance certificates.

Other routes

You can also do your CPD with an Accredited CPD Employer or a recognised IFAC member.
