Well the STRGL and historic cost statements I am confiused about, I understand that the STRGL is the unrealised gains and losses but the BPP book includes load of other stuff aswell, same with the historic cost profits statements where you show the difference on the effect of the profit due to depreciation/revaluation !

Any ideas?? BPP have just confused me !!

I had to look them up in the book (Osborne). However I would be surprised if anything would come up in the exam, apart from explaining STRGL purpose, or describe why and when do we make a note of historical P+L. So dont worry.

The note of hist. P+Ls starts with reported profit on ord. act. before tax and, after adjustments, concludes with the histor. cost profit on ordinary act. before tax.
example of note of hist.PL:

profit on ord. activities before tax: 90000
add: difference between depr. on
original cost of f. asset(historical cost) and
depr. on revauled f. ass. 10000
add:Realisation of e.g property revaulation
gains of previous years 18000

Equals to
Historical cost profit on ord. act. bef.tax 118000

also there must be a hcp figure after tax, MI, extraordinary items and div-s.

It is good to know what they mean generally, but I am sure, that this thin wont come up in the exam for calculation, or will be really basic,so I would not worry about it.

Hi Katemarie
I am stdying BPP as well ( homestudy course) for the June central. The course for this particular unit doesn't seem to be very well written. There is a lot of quoting the standards, but not acutally explaining them. I have worked through the revision notes and practice questions and this has helped to make it all a little easier to understand but BPP do tend to make this one unnecessarily challenging.
Try having a look at some past papers - the questions are a lot less complicated and therefore help you to understand what is needed.
Sorry for griping about BPP, and good luck with the CA.
