What happened to the NIC tables!! We have not been taught how to do the percentage method. I got it all wrong. Did it say somewhere that we were not getting the tables? or was it just the wrong sort of supprise? AAAGGGHHH

Hi Catherine,

I was surprised about there being no NIC tables as well, I found them easier to use compared to the % method! So no doubt I'll have failed on that part. But apart from that I didn't find it to bad, aimimng to have my Portfolio finished for the middle/end of July, then I can enjoy the rest of the Summer.

Hi again,

Just spoke to my tutor and he reckons that he told us that we wouldn't be given the NIC tables, and that everyone else should have been told by their college too. I can't remember being told that we would only have the % method to use.

If all tutors were told, then why did ours only teach us the tables way? I will have to ask her in September...if i pass that is!
Don't think i did so bad on the rest, except for the question on strike action. I don't think that is even in my textbook! Does anyone know the answer?

Hi,

I agree about the Strike question. I have searched everywhere in the text book and I can't find it anywhere! How can that be fair? Giving us questions when we haven't even got the information in the first place. Are you going to make a complaint?

Hi!
I don't know about complaining, i will speak to my tutor soon as she still needs to sign off my portfolio and see what she says. I Googled it and all i could find was on the inland revenue website and it said that they may have been overpaid and due a rebate at the end of the year. Doesn't really answer the question though. I would like to know the real answer! I will post if i do consider complaining, but i doubt that i will.
Best of luck with results!
Cathy

I didn't take the exam but have had quite a bit of payroll experience so may be able to help.

What was the question?

Hi,
As far as i can remember the question was:

Some of your employees are on strike,

a) What it the special tax rule that applies?
b) why would their tax codes change when they returned to work? (i think they asked for 2 answers)

I can't remember the exact wording but that was the jist!

I answered:
a) You change the tax code to emergancy week 1/month1
b) they may have a change of position within the company with a different wage structure and/or they may lose or gain benefits leading to a change in tax code.
I hope that this was correct enough to gain some points, but i don't know the real answer!!
Many thanks, Cathy
