This is a Funching Great site for checking House Prices in any area. I use it regularly.

House prices are so ridiculous now. Especially down here in Devon. Me and my partner are looking to live together and we've had to resort to renting... we're waiting for the market to crash then we'll buy :D Down here you both need to be on about £17500 to get a mortgage for a 2 bed terraced on the main road. And there aren't many people here who earn that much. Come on crash :)

05-09-06, 13:09
I doubt the Housing Market will crash again - It's too precious to the government as it is so they'll do everything they can to avoid changing it.

The market best not crash though, My long term plans are in property...

Maybe not crash but it will decline VERY quickly. BOS said that when the Base Rate hits 5% thats when it will crash but they weren't expecting it for about 10 years. It's already 4.75%... that's why my colleague is putting off buying a house because she's worried she'll buy it, then the market wil decline and she'll go into negative equity and all sorts. If anything happens I think it will all be within the next five years.

God bless fixed rate mortgages! :-)

Okay, I have a current hot topic...

Anyone on here got a First Direct account and, like me, absolutely incensed by their latest "good idea" to charge everyone £10 per month unless you have £1,500 going through your account each month? They say I meet their criteria but I'm about £150 short of their monthly target so not sure how I can...

Is this paramount to economic suicide for a bank that I've been with since they virtually started back in the early 90's? Surely only a madman could have thought this one up? I've noticed their service has detoriorated quite noticably this year and this could now be the final straw for me...

I just hope that unlike our greedy UK utility companies, other banks don't choose to follow suit but instead opt to sign up all the possible tens of thousands of very soon to ex-First Direct customers...

With regard to utilities companies, I always take a grim plesure in the irony when people in this part of the world moan about them. Cornwall was solidly Tory throughout the 80's, they voted for privatisation, they took their nice little profits on the shares and now they gripe about private companies acting just like private companies are supposed to act.

Sure, the banks are greedy bastards, but that's capitalism.

The abolition of free banking just merely goes to what I've been saying for years now - in that this country is going to the bloody dogs.

Individual's are constantly having more and more pressures put on them to pay more and the fact that banks have (not might because they will) charge their customers for using them merely goes to add another nail in this country's coffin.

I think we should all emigrate! :D

I have been paying £11.50 per month for the last 4 months (£10.50 for roughly 24 months before that), for the pleasure of banking with Barclays.
There are benefits included in that though, like breakdown cover, mobile phone cover, no interest on overdrafts etc. but I would still prefer to buy my missus a box of choccies with that £11.50!

I agree with you on that one Peugeot. When I was younger I used to believe that this was a great country, truly Great Britain you might even say.

However, when I was going through my divorce four years ago I found myself virtually homeless (sleeping on friends floors), jobless and penniless. I went to the state for help and was told I was eligible for practically nothing despite my having paid into the system for years. I couldn't get emergency housing as I had people's floors to sleep on. I was treated with no care or dignity whatsoever and it was the lowest point of my life so far and hopefully ever will be. I say hopefully, 'cos I also believe worse times are to come for all of us who live in this country in the years to come...

Far from being Great Britain, I think we are now the toilet of Europe, overpriced and overtaxed for precious little in return. My main aim now is to become highly skilled in whatever I do then leave this country for good once my kids are older.

Rant not over - it's only just begun, but I now need a coffee!

Robert

Just a coffee?.. you sure you want nothing stronger! lol

I think members of the super team should group together, and video conference a broadcast to Europe to let them know a new and better Party has been born!

Alongside the Tories, Lib Dems and Labours will be the AAT Sooperteamers!

We'll put the UK back to gain the recognition we deserve!

Count me in!

I work hard and save as much as I can, but I know that when I'm older and wrinklier I'll get nothing back.

I'm not normally one for band wagons, but something needs doing!

The country has gone to the dogs many times before, the thing is people used to care and get something done about it. Now they just seem to live with it.

I'm seriously thinking of emigrating. Have been looking at New Zealand and talking it over with some friends who might go. You can get a palace over there for the same money you could get a shack with here.

Exactly Blobbby/lincs.

I agree wholeheartedly get as qualified as you can, use this country for what you can and then get the hell out. It's the cheaper option! :D

Abolition of free banking, introduction of congestion charges, climate taxes and fines for putting your rubbish in the wrong bin are just the starters I think.

I think this would be a good idea, maybe we could put all those books for sale in it?
Anne Marie

thought there had been a books for sale forum already in existence? read the forum properly before posting stuff like this. makes us look daft.
