Private Messages

I know I should be able to look this up in the help section, but it's blank!
I would like to know how to send a PM, and if there are any rules I should know about.
I've tried what is obvious to me - hover the mouse over the person's name - but that doesn't do anything.
I have just started a new thread which is prompting readers to PM me (see Student Technical if you are curious) but how can I be sure they are able to do that.

Thanks for any pointers to a non-techie.

Assuming you did mean 'message'...

Easiest way is to copy the name of the the person you want to pm, click on private messages then new message and paste the name in the right box.

Yeah, it's not exactly obvious...
