Hi everyone!! I've just started the foundation NVQ and I'm doing it by correspondence course.

Unfortunately as a single mum working full time in what sometimes feel like a "soap opera" life, I am struggling to motivate myself and knuckle down to it!

I was wondering whether there is anyone who lives in my area who has also just started the course and would like to meet up occasionally as moral support to each other?

I live in Hampshire between Salisbury and Bournemouth - is there anybody out there???

Post your questions here and you will get all the help, from worldwide, that you will ever need!

Moral support is also available, if required.

I used to live in Enford, Wiltshire side of things, which isn't too far away from you...

Unfortunately, I now live in Yorkshire! :)

Just a thought - visit your local college and see if you can't meet up with other students for AAT. Some of them (shockingly!) engage in the odd 'beverage'...
The closest, looking at a map, seems to be Eastleigh - but you will know your local area better than me. (I used the code listing for AAT centres.)

[For The Benefit Of Viewers - There are a few amusing bits. If you want to jump to the conclusion, use the following link: http://forums.aat.org.uk/forums/posts/list/195/13353.page#67621
- this takes you to point at which I temporarily leave this little gang (p14), then you can choose to proceed with rest of 'Study Buddy' crew. Or, you could stay tuned and, ... just enjoy the ride! There are over 500 pages worth... It gets transferred from Foundation to Off-topic forum circa p92, then the Technicians hog it. Discovery...]

Thanks for your support, Toadface! :D

Beginning to think I've bitten off more than I can chew at the moment but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

You're right-Eastleigh is the closest. Bit of a trek but worth looking into - a great idea - thanks.

Hope your course is going well and you are happy in sunny Yorkshire!!

Students will be at different stages.
Also, by the looks of things, the different colleges are running the separate sections of the course in a different order to each other!
i'm doing it at college - bookkeeping throughout the year, with Management Accounting upto Xmas, then Sage/computerised Jan-June. (NVQ)
So some students may look to be ahead - don't be offput by this.
Basically, you've got one exam PLB (Preparing Ledger Balances) or the IAC (for the Diploma study route) which most people will be sitting in June, seven units with a simulation 'test' for each, and an ongoing 'coursework' portfolio. (I'm not sure whether the Diplomas are doing the equivalent). As long as you have these at May/June then you are sorted. Some of these units, you will only need to pass once, eg Health&Safety, Personal Development. Whereas the units for bookkeeping will be seen again at Intermediate and Technician level. Once you get your head round the big overview and know what is involved, you can then chop things down - so you don't have a massive pile!
Check out the other bits of the AAT website, Carol Harris, one of the examiners, has written a guide to exam techniques for PLB, (also useful for homework). There are past exam papers. And there is a student question section for questions and back issues of their magazine. Loads of resources (a bit of overload, in fact)!
The way I see it - your main problem is isolation and the social interaction. As a distance learner, you will probably have the flexibility of taking your exam next xmas rather than June, whereas we college dudes are following the schedule laid down by our colleges. So you may have an advantage over us guys... And you had the motivation and courage to head out into the wide wilderness of home-study!
If you have any problems, I'll try my best to help you out, and I bet others will too.
My weakness tends to be the 'wordy' wishywashy management accounting areas.
Take care now. :D

You could go to the college, or contact their student union/student support by phone, or simply post a request here for students at Eastleigh (anonymously hiding, etc) to contact you via the Private Message thingy... You would only need to go to the college itself once - then you would have contact details for future.
Also, keep your eye on the 'Newbie' thread - read all the way through - there is loads of help and advice. (It may become sticky. My post appears to be the last, i'm waiting to see what others have to say.) A lot of the threads tend to be question with answer, then end of discussion... Keep your eye on 'Portfolio' thread as well - could be useful in seeing how others have organised their work.
Do you work in an accounts environment? Teaching someone else helps you organise your thoughts - teach your kids about money management??? :D :D
Yorkshire is currently typical sunbathing... (LOL)

23-10-06, 09:44
Thanks again, Toadface.

I am working in an accounts environment which helps - it's the not enough hours in the day that's a problem!!

Thanks so much for your support - I really appreciate it.

Don't forget to use suncream in sunny Yorkshire!!! 8)

Look after yourself :D

Someone recommended using 10 mins of their lunchbreak. (Which I will probably do.) Tape recording your notes for when driving, or reading on bus, etc.
Different barriers and different solutions. Use what works for you.
Are your kids old enough to help with chores, etc.
Take a look at the 'Technician' forum.
There are over 3000 separate threads - trying to read all of that is going to be one hell of a headbanger! :? But they have already passed this course and learnt to overcome stuff - some have done it distance as well. They also offer advice to us rookies. And some have sat quietly for the past three years, and only posted 30 times etc - then come out with dynamite...
There are also 'ghosts' wandering around - there were 50 or so viewings of your request, before I responded. (Its now about 70!) Maybe one of those is at Eastleigh College? :) (NB Heavy HINT to students at Eastleigh College...)
Sorry about the massive essay. I was just brainstormin for ideas... Hope something triggers other ideas of your own. :D
Trying to get my head round control accounts at moment. I've got more time than you - but everything seems to expand to fill that time!!!
Take it easy... :)
It is 87 now!!!

Hello Katieh! Good to have you participating :)

How do you deal with three jobs!!! :-o  :?
Are you studying FastTrack?
Do you have any tips for time management?

Anyone who lives in the Bournemouth area and wants to offer face-to-face student support to Bagpuss, please contact her using the Private Message.

Also anyone, elsewhere, who wants a study buddy - log in here and locate yourself, and then eventually someone (!!!) will read this thread... :D

Thank you bagpuss.

Hiya Katieh and Welcome to "Stressed Anonymous!!"

I see Toadface has already introduced his/herself - he/she makes such a wonderful host/ess doesn't she/he?!!

I'm amazed that you are holding down 3 jobs - do you ever sleep let a lone do your course work??

I'm afraid, due to personal circumstances, I have dipped out of doing the Dec06 Exam - I'm going to do it in Jun07 now. Helps with pressure a bit but still hasn't found me more hours in the day!

I'm finding it really hard to "get into" this course but Toadface has been a brick and has kept me going - Thanks Toadface.

Must go now but will be in touch again in a while.

Keep smiling everyone and group hug to us all!!!!

Katie -
Some students are doing the condensed course (September to December) and taking their exam in Dec (5th) instead of June. Also some unsuccessfuls will be taking the exam as a second attempt at this time.
Some might be taking the exam early, cos they are nutters! Erm... I entered for personal challenge...
(I feel it is better to try and fail, than not to try at all.) :)

Some colleges run the Diploma rather than NVQ. Some can provide both, but run the course based on how many students join up. (So my college is running it as NVQ).
Did you get a 'blank' exam register form through the post? (Everyone gets it). Have you actually registered for the exam? My college wasn't running the exam in December, so I registered and paid online. I'm sitting PLB at FTC Kaplan in Leeds. If you aren't sure about having registered for the exam - then you probably aren't sitting it! So you can chill till June...

  NB!!! (Log into 'Your Account' and check the Exam Attendance option on the left-side of screen.)
[viewers - this turns up later... in our little soap opera!]

With diploma you don't have the portfolio, so you will probably have more study side, leading to the IAC exam. Which is going to be a lot to take in with only a month to go!
Good luck with it, Katie. If the worse happens, you still get another chance later, in June. Just try to understand as much as you can, and take it easy. It isn't a 'once in your lifetime and never again'. So you don't need to get stressed. Just try your best. It is good practice. 8) :)

Oh yeah. i saw your email somewhere - be careful! (Ms 'H'...) Luckily only AAT students are likely to visit this site, which limits the spam-side, etc. I've got a flexible ISP, so I can change my emails if I get too much crap. 8)

Bagpuss - Howya doin pardner? :D

Hi Toadface!

I was just about to reply to your yesterday's email and our internet went down at work!!!!

No - no one has contacted me yet despite your amazing efforts at conjuring up support!

Yes - I thought you might be a man because I thought a woman would be unlikey to call herself "Toadface".......there again, I don't look much like Bagpuss so who knows???!!! Are you going to tell me??

I am slowly progressing through this course... very slowly. You sound like you have bags of energy and enthusiasm - where does it all come from?

What job do you do or are you a full time student?

Cheers.......... oops - just seen the time - a few more hours before G&T time!!

By the way - has Yorkshire broken the 100 degrees yet??!! 8) 8)

Hi Huns!

Friday at last - hooray!! :D

Not going to get my work submitted by 29th - booooooooooo!

I am an accounts administrator for a group of companies, the main one being a construction company. I basically do the bookeeping (sales & purchase ledger etc etc) and anything else that comes my way! I love my job and have definitely found my "niche" - just can't get into this blooming qualification!!

I work 40+ hours a week and my "little uns" are 17 and 18 (I was a young mum....married at 18,eldest born 2 months before my 21st birthday......madness)!!

I know they should be all grown up and independent but unfortunately my 17 year old has been ill over the last 4 years and it takes a lot of my time, emotionally & physically. :(

There we are - that's me in a nutshell...... and that's why I'm as mad as a hatter, have lost all my marbles and don't have the energy to do this ****** course!!!

Toadface - plumber to accounts - that's a bit diverse???!!!! How did you make that decision? There's definitely more money in plumbing!!

How far have you got with your course - you sound very motivated?

Better go now - lunch break over!I know, I know - I can hear you - why aren't I studying instead of writing emails??!!! My answer - I NEED A BREAK!!!

Have a great weekend everyone (if we don't speak before or during)!

Cheers!!

xx

PS Katie - as you will be reading this after the weekend, I hope it was a good one and you had a chance to chill

xx

ToadFace
27-10-06, 14:23
Katie - you seem pretty chilled now! You looked to be panicking a little earlier. Which part of the course are you currently studying? Have a good weekend! Going anywhere interesting? Tell me when you get back. 8)

Bagpuss - was looking at self-employment as plumber, with the Accounts to do own books. passed aptitude test for plumbing course and told was on waiting list (more than a year). so had to do something in meantime - accounts course... Then when started accounts, was offered a place on plumbing course (earlier than expected). Couldn't do both. Major timing! Anyway, sticking with accounts now - leave plumbing for retirement.

You will have loads of evidence for your portfolio...
It looks like you already have all the knowledge you need for the course - just need the time to complete homework, etc. Are you doing the course for promotion at work, to get experience/skills recorded on paper, or for your own satisfaction? (or all of above...)

Have you got support from your kids? Do they know how important the course is to you?
Can't you shuffle your little cherubs onto their father for a while, and give yourself some breathing space? Are you still talking to him? It is good if you can still be friends - sometimes impossible, I know... :)
Currently finishing a Unit 4 practice simulation, for homework (Flourpot Bakery). I am getting to grips with cash books next... And Breaks are Very Good, expecially with a 40 hour week!!! Take it easy, talk to you later... :D
Hmm...Southern Comfort...

I thought you were going somewhere nice...

We're using the Osborne Books as well - (my college, that is, I'm not sure what info Bagpuss is working from - as she is doing it thru home-study method) - and we're going backwards and forwards!!!

I'm trying to get a handle on the 'Discount' bit linked to cashbooks. The wording for the transactions is pretty odd! (So I don't know whether discount has already been taken or not - so I'm probably taking it 'twice'). How are you understanding it? :?

How are you, Bagpuss? :)

Hi Guys!

Aaaawwww - you're both so sweet to worry about me :) Thanks for that!

Been a tough few days with one thing or another. :( Had to cut back on the studying for a while - still doing it but more at my own pace. My boss has been brilliant and says she doesn't want me to be stressed by the course - she wants me to enjoy it and learn it rather than rush through it and not understand what the hell I'm doing!!
She knows what else goes on in my life and has been extremely supportive.

In answer to your question Toadface, I'm doing the course for all the reasons you mentioned. I love bookkeeping and accounts (oops-does that make me boring?) and know it's what I want to keep doing. Although I have the experience, it seems to be so important these days to have that stupid bit of paper proving what you can do! I don't agree with these bits of paper really but one must move with the times!!

I agree with you, I do have some knowledge of accounts but my work is all computerised. When I 1st started bookkeeping 4+ years ago I did a manual bookkeeping course but unless you put it into practice regularly, it's so easy to forget when Sage does it for you!!

Sorry but I've got to go now - saw your messages and wanted to let you know I'm still aliveQ

I know I sound pathetic, but it's really great having you guys as "cyber" mates - helps with moral and support!

Well done by the way, you both sound like you're doing really well despite your busy lives!

Thanks Katie and Toadface - speak soon  :) :D xxxx.

ToadFace
31-10-06, 19:23
It's good to hear from you Bagpuss! You've got a great boss!!! :D (Also manual helps with spotting errors on computer...)

Katie - I'm trying to get into a system for posting accounts, so that I do it same way each time. (Hopefully, it will then become automatic.)

Still trying to understand the different ways they talk about discounts. (Some look like gross minus discount, some like 'discounted figure' plus discount, some with gross and 'discounted figure' with subraction - the easy ones!, and then there's the REALLY WEIRD ones...)

I'm trying to see both sides, so I'm going to do ch 15 as well.

Take care now. Was wine mentioned? (We must seem like a right bunch of addicts...)

Not too bad. How was Pink concert? I'm trying to remember who he/she is... Punkyish, female...??? (Did that 'spitting song'???)

Have you got your Unit 4 Sim next week? (Do u do Sims for Diploma?) I'm hoping it will be similar to ones I've already done.

Oh yeah! Received email from some bloke at college.

I'm to say hi to 'Debbie, Vicky, Nicky and Mo' - sounds like the Four Stooges.

Apparently, we're the centre of discussion in their class - something about s!!xu!al chemistry or something... (?????)

Did I miss something? I don't remember things like that...

I must have missed something - cos there's cobwebs...

I'm not sure whether to be flattered or irritated - by all those helpful CONTRIBUTING comments... ;-) ;)

Hi Guys! How's it hanging?

You two seem to be scooting a long really well - congrats to you both.

Pink Concert - you are soooooooooo lucky. Was she good? I've just bought her album and she's at the BIC in December - I was really tempted to go.

How come the four stooges discuss us in class but aren't joining the conversation??? Come and join us....... the more the merrier!! :D

tata for now and don't be a stranger :)

Bagpuss1
07-11-06, 16:10
Hi Katie

Not a stranger - just living more of my soap opera life!! :P

Can you believe life can change so quickly?? Last week I was singing the praises of my boss who sponsored my course and has been really supportive...... this week everything has gone pear shaped and I'm thinking of looking for a new job??!!

As usual, a long and complicated story. But what I've decided to do is transfer over to the Diploma Pathway like you. I am doing my course through Premier Training and my tutor has been really supportive. We discussed it and decided that as I don't know what the future holds job wise, and I haven't managed to get far with my course, starting afresh is the best thing for me and now is the time to move to Diploma rather than later!

So that's what I'm going to do - so soon I'll be as cofuzzled as you!

Think I definitely need that drink tonight!

Pink sounds amazing - as I said I really wanted to go, perhaps now you tell me it's raunchy I can persuade one of my male friends to join me!!lol

Look after yourself, Katie and don't work too hard.

xx :D xx

Oim still here...

Been a bit busy - just bombarded loads of companies with spec letters. Getting grief from dole office...

Now done all way upto ch 15. Didn't really understand all the legal stuff...

Good idea to transfer to Diploma - my college is switching to Diploma for the level 3 (next year), cos they're fed up with all the portfolio grief every year!!!

I'll be bugging you for ideas to get my portfolio sorted! Hope you don't mind...???

Oh yeah! The sims are mini tests (sort of 'exam conditions') that count towards your course, and they can be used for portfolio evidence, as well. They're similar to the workbook exercises, but a little more challenging... (Have a look at the back of your Osborne Workbook, for examples.)

The stooges are probably reading this - so I offer them the hand of friendship as well... (did i say clip around the ear?) Hi peeps!
:D :) :D

Erm... sorry Baggy... I put the mark of the wombat onto you - by saying you had a great boss... OOps!

And i think it was a girl band who did the 'spitting song', so i've got mixed up. Their vid shows someone spitting and it wizzing thru air and someone catches with mouth. urgh!... something about 'get your freak on' or something. :?

hey bagpuss,
Noway is ur boss being an ass!! diploma pathway is better i think because you don't have all the portfolio to put together but you only do 3hrs a week at college so you get railroaded through it but i am starting tio understand it now i think i sat down for a good few hrs last night an worked through some tasks hope to get some done today aswell (good job i work for daddy i get to do college work at my desk hehehe)

Oh toadface that was missy elliot that sang that song!!!! nevermind :) I am upto ch 15 not done the tasks yet though!! legal stuff what ch was that again lol i think i read some of it hahaha

anyhow should go get some work done although it is raining here (no i not been singing) and it will be very quiet in my game today (builders don't like getting wet!!!!)

oh i forgot to say ello to the stoogies!!!!! hi you 4

tata for now keep well and i will join you with that drink when i finish college tonight bagpuss

Hi Guys

Katie - my boss didn't decide I should change to Diploma - I'm doing it to protect myself because if I leave this job, I don't have to worry about a portfolio and evidence.

By the way, you said "it's raining here"..... where's here?

i was right about one of my male friends wanting to see Pink once I told him it was raunchy - he is VERY keen now!!

Better go now and make sure our brickies get paid I suppose!

Have a great day (despite the rain) and "cheers" to your drink tonight!!

08-11-06, 14:45
Hi everyone just a quick question on how you are all finding the diploma pathway as i am studying it and am finding it rather difficult on my own as i do not know anybody else studying it.

Thanks

Rae

08-11-06, 15:58
Hi Rae and welcome!!

I have been doing the NVQ but am in the very early stages. I have just decided to transfer to the Diploma pathway. I am just waiting to receive my new books then I will be up and running again - I will be happy to struggle through it with you.

Are you doing it by correspondence course? How long have you been doing it and how far have you got?

Katie is doing the Diploma pathway , so i'm sure when she signs on later, she will tell you all about it.

Have you done bookkeeping and accounting before?

If you are stuck on something in particular, post it on here and we'll try and help you :D

Anyway, I must get back to work, but once again welcome to our happy little thread - speak to you soon!

 :P  :P

08-11-06, 16:04
So, Bagpuss you're going to see Pink. Excellent...!
:P :D
Sorry Katie, finding it hard to keep up with these things. So you've seen the vid then? I just remember that bit - n every now n then getting woken up by alarm to hear it, with me eyes glued together... I tend to go for Goth (Sisters, Bryan Warner, etc), Classical, Trancy (eg Tubular Bells, Virgin Prunes, Tangerine Dream, Bauhaus, Vangelis, etc), and Screaming Death Metal - wakes you up no messin! And a little bit a punk n ska... 8)

Hello Stooges! :D

Hello Rae!!! (We've a convert to the Danger Zone...)

Well Rae, I'm still doing NVQ, but my colleagues are doing the Diploma - so I'm not too sure, how to answer your question. I'm finding bookkeeping pretty ok. Few problems to iron out. Got my Unit 4 sim next week - but I think everyone is doing it then as well - NVQ side at least! 8) :P Have you got a problem with your bookkeeping? Ask away! :)

Oh! Katie, taken a look at aat's brochure. I think you will be doing a Sim or similar for your Unit 31. (It says skill test next to all of my units, and the same next to Diploma Unit 31 - plus exam for your unit 30 - which i think is the IAC exam...?) :?

Gotta rattle some more cages now - job spec letters.

See ya guys later!!!
Love ya :D

Bagpuss1
08-11-06, 17:59
I love Bon Jovi too - They are great and he's rather yummy!!

I'm a sad old bird who, up until a few weeks ago, had never been to any concerts EVER!! Then.... all my dreams were answered and I went to see Robbie Williams at Milton Keynes!!

He was truly amazing and whether you love or hate him, there is no denying that he is a true entertainer - fandabbydozy!!!!

Look at me now - it's taken me nearly 40 years to go to a concert and soon I will have been to 2 first class ones within a matter of months!!! :D

Sorry - I'm terrible aren't I .... butting in and never talking about accounts!??? :P :P

ToadFace
08-11-06, 18:51
My fave is erm... cowboy song? Dead or Alive, i think??? :? Like Bryan Adams, as well - run to you...

And Katie - now, i agree with you. I prefer the analysed cash books. Everything's split up so u just have to post to accounts. With the two columns, etc you got to remember to split it all up!!! Your unit 31 will prob be next year...

I've read some of the other threads - Rae is our resident expert on Sage software, so we're sorted if we have any probs... :D

And you're going for exam in Dec? How far have u got with course? You seem pretty confident. Anyway, any probs - see if we can help...

And jobs-wise - they keep 'filing' me!

katieh
09-11-06, 08:58

Toadface bryan adams wot can i say he is brill tried to get tickets but they went in a matter of hrs for manchester (was mega gutted). Ye i prefer analysed there jus easier to work with!!!

We had quite an easy lesson last might at college we touched wages a little and did some reconciling of bank accounts but i do that anyhow so it was a doddle and i finally think am ready for this exam it is starting to click now (thank god)

Hey rae you sitting your exam in dec?

oooopppppsss got to dash wages to do invoices to sort an suppliers to shout at!!!!!

ps toadface my sis did this course 2 yr ago she never done accounts an found it an ass gettin a job so she did volunteer wrk for a very short time to get experience then signed with an agency now has a very well payed job so don't give up just keep tryin (or you can ave my job lol)

Bagpuss1
09-11-06, 14:36
Hiya y'all........ and the 4 stooges!!

I'm very envious of you all doing your exam in December - get it over and done with etc!

I use Sage at work too, and I agree with Rae, it's very straight forward. I also use another piece of software called Sage Construct which is not so good - but that's another story!

Katie - I was really lucky to get Pink tickets - think she put on an extra date.

Toadface - I agree with Katie re Bryan Adams - he's amazing - not quite as yummy as Robbie but still great!

I'm off to ring my tutor now to get this course back on track!

See ya later - mwah mwah ........ I can hear the stooges' tongues wagging from here!! :P

Bagpuss1

Have a good weekend Katie

Rae

10-11-06, 14:30
Hope you have a great weekend "studying" too Katie!!

Can't believe I'm doing this, but might be going on a blind date tonight!! aaaaaaaaagggggghhhhhhh!! Takes your mind off studying doesn't it.................. and gives the stooges more to talk about :D

I'm back on track with the studying now and think the Diploma Pathway is going to suit me better!

Have a great weekend Guys - don't drink too much...........save some for me!!

Good luck with your date! My advice is to just see it as friendship - with no expectations, then see how it goes. (Less pressure to impress each other, and usually more honesty and respect...)

I've got an interview with [Big unspecified company] on Monday. I'm very nervous... Do you know how big they are? They've got offices all over the world...
I saw their advert in a newspaper, for Accounts, so I applied on spec, for a general position leading to accounts. They didn't have their website printed and stuff like that. So, I've been tryin to research them - found website. But everywhere I've checked for company accounts, charges you! (The best price was Companies House - £1 per document, others were charging £10, etc...) So I've had to call it quits on the business side. Anyone know where you can get info like that for free? :?: :( :?

Anyone wanna wish me luck?

Have a great weekend everyone! :P :D

10-11-06, 15:42
Good Luck hope everthing goes well :!: we use companies house for all info like that so i cant really help you on cheaper prices

Have a great weekend

Bagpuss1
10-11-06, 15:48
Hi Toadface!

I am sending lots and lots of luck to you - it is winging it's way to you as we speak!! I've also got everything crossed  and have starterd searching for a black cat with a rabbit's foot round it's neck!!

GOOD LUCK, TOADFACE!!

xx :D xx

PS I agree re date - I'm being open minded - nothing to lose, just a friend to gain!

PPS I agree with Rae re Companies House - think that's what most people do! You could always break into their offices and "borrow" the accounts - that would be free, but YOU might not be afterwards!!

PPS To any random policemen reading this - the breaking in comment was a joke!!! :P  :D

xx

10-11-06, 16:07
Hi Bagpuss, Re your blind date hope all goes well and they're really great but just remember that if they're a real complete weirdo you can always set them up with someone you dont like :!:  :D

Bagpuss1
10-11-06, 16:26
  Good idea Rae!! Trouble is the only people I "don't like" are men and none of them are gay so don't think that'll work - would be fun to set them up though!!

Don't worry, he's the brother of a friend so I know he's not scary weird but he could still be weird weird!!??

Keep you posted and thanks again!

:D

ToadFace
10-11-06, 17:00
aaw! shucks... Thanks guys!

I'm gonna try and get an 'Athens account', so I can use the college online resources - but that will have to wait till next week. 8)

You know when you meet someone, and you're on the same wavelength...? Well, I hope it works out, Baggy. :D

Enjoy your weekend, guys.

Talk to you later. Byeeee...

10-11-06, 17:42
Have a great weekend everybody dont get too drunk

10-11-06, 17:45
Thanks Rae - have fun all of you!

ToadFace
11-11-06, 10:54
So, Bagpuss -
How are you? How did it go? Are you going to see him again?

Bagpuss1
11-11-06, 11:07
Hi Toadface - I'm surprised you're awake after your late night!!! Why so late??

He was really nice - we had a really fab evening - flew by - and neither of us drank because we were driving, so it was genuine fun, not alcohol driven fun!!!!

Think I'm going to see him again - he asked for Sunday but I can't so watch this space!

How are you - you sound very knowledgeable and confident on your other threads?

x

Bagpuss1
11-11-06, 11:11
re "Please Help" thread: by masterful I meant you were ...... knowledgeable and specific!!??

ToadFace
11-11-06, 11:20
Well, my head was buzzing, was tossing and turning - so did something useful.

Shhh!!! (Don't tell anyone - but I got 99% in section one and 94% in section two, under exam conditions, although I did use the full 3 hours...)

I'm glad about your new friend. :D

So, is that 'masterful' in a good way, then?

I've got a new mission - get my name on all the threads!!!

Bagpuss1
12-11-06, 12:45
Good Morning Toadface!!

Yep - masterful in a good way!

Why "Shhh" re your results?? Sing it from the roof tops - you should be very proud of yourself - WELL DONE TOADIE!! :D

I see you're doing really well with your mission to get your name on all threads - I am impressed and you are very knowledgeable and helpful!

Did you see the thread on the general forum "To write in capitals or not to write in capitals?" It got VERY heated!!

Thanks re "new friend" - not sure where it'll go but watch this space..............

Do you spend all your time studying?

How are you feeling about the interview tomorrow? :D

ToadFace
12-11-06, 17:41
Hiya!

That's flattering - thank you.

I was trying to be modest and make a joke at same time - it is about 1200 views now...

Section two is still doing my head though. :?

The 'Technicians' have arrived, so I've given up on that mission - I'll find myself a new one.

I don't study all the time! I've just got more time than you - and been pretty succesful at reorganising my time. I'm now sorted and have 3 weeks (2and a bit really) to finetune everything - background stuff, like use of software, filing systems, etc. 8)

I notice that 'mixx3000' hasn't come back. We don't even know if the downloaded exams were sat for testing - so he/she doesn't know the weaknesses...

Yeah, was bored, so had a nosey thru some of webs. I think it's best if just split everything into private and business - then textspeak for friends, etc, and professional business spellings, etc for other stuff. (I think someone else said that...) They're very eloquent, aren't they?

Re interview. My main barrier is that my reference from last job (6 & half years) is likely to be naff, and only talk about the last month working there - which was kind of unpleasant. I'm glad I'm out now, but it makes things awkward... And six months unemployed doesn't look good, either. Have joined agencies as well, so hopefully should get more options. Would like to work for [?], but I'm not really qualified for the job that they are interviewing me for - so a challenge! (Hopefully, I can eventually get references from other things - voluntary work, etc to compensate...) :( :?

Anyway. How are you? How are the little 'uns? :P

What's happened to Rae and Katie - oh, yeah, its a weekend!

Bagpuss1
12-11-06, 18:44
They're probably in a drunken stupor somewhere!

Surprisingly, not a drop has passed my lips this weekend - not through choice - had a blooming migraine!!

Re your reference - I don't think employers are allowed to give duff references these days - another one of these new fangled laws to protect us all.

I really hope your interview goes well. Can you not "dress up" the 6 month gap....... did you perhaps go travelling or have to look after a sick relative?? Also, surely all the studying you have done in that times proves to any employer that you are motivated and haven't been a couch potato for the last 6 months! I'd employ you!!

Are you nervous or are you a calm person?

My "little uns" are good thanks - my daughter is quite well at the moment which is a relief :D My son is 6ft tall so not so little!! He's just finished his first week working at Friends Provident - he's really enjoying it which is another relief. My migraine was probably due to the calm in my life after the last stormy weeks!!!

Speak soon

xx

PS Those stooges never did join in did they??? Coming up to "bah humbug" season so they are obviously practising being stick in the muds!!!! :D

ToadFace
12-11-06, 19:04
I'm calm doing a job, but nervous talking about the 'process' of how I did it!!! (And being 'on the spot' makes me nervous...)

[6 years service... waffle]

Congrats on the sobriety. You can make up for it next weekend!

Good news about your son! :P

I don't think that they are 'joiners'... More kind of sit there, and laugh at our vulnerabilities, insecurities - which of course, they don't have...

Bagpuss1
12-11-06, 19:19
They must be aliens then!!!!

ToadFace
12-11-06, 20:01
Well, it's their loss. If they have anything valuable or useful to contribute, then they are welcome to join in... Or if they want to have a laugh... (ie laughing with us and not at us!)

How's your work - have things calmed down?

There's a Yoga trick for headaches - r ya interested?

I still haven't figured out where the 'se!u!l' stuff comes in...???

Bagpuss1
12-11-06, 21:32
Work stuff not sorted - just trying to switch off from the aggro and do my job. Can't really leave at the mo - would be cutting off my nose to spite my face!

Yes please - what's the yoga trick for headaches - i'm willing to try anything - it's really peeing me off now!!

Oh my god, can you imagine the shock waves running thro the aat (and the stooges) if you started giving me sex tips online

We are such rebels - I wonder if there's ever been a thread like this one!!??

Don't worry , Toadie, I'm sure Rae and Katie will be back tomorrow and you can talk about normal accounting stuff again!!  :D I seem to lower the credability of this forum!!?? Talk about everything but aat stuff!!!
xx

ToadFace
12-11-06, 22:40
Yeah... best to keep your job, and quietly find another - else mortgage probs etc...

Right! any good at visualization?

Find somewhere quiet, close curtains, etc.

Try to picture the 'pain' in your head and try to describe it to yourself in as much detail as possible.

What shape is it? What colour? Smooth or spiky? Throbbing or stabbing? How big? How heavy is it?

All of these, and more, kind of 'distance' you from it.

You should get to a stage where you don't notice anymore.
NB if you have headaches regularly, then you should definitely check with doctor - cos it might be something more serious! (But stress, high blood pressure, noisy environments, even diet, etc, can all influence.)

No... I think we've set a new record for sophistication, moral tone, etc...

You could probably give me "!!!" tips...

I'm going to get to bed now.

Be back on forum tomorrow night, and tell you how I got on.

Nighty night xx

Hi Guys!!

Katie - oh my goodness , what an eventful weekend!! You poor thing - are you ok?

Rae - Hi - How's the new flat - have you made it "yours" yet or is it still full of boxes? I haven't had problems getting onto AAT today but only on now and first thing this morning - haven't been on rest of day?!

Toadface - how did you get on today - any news yet?

13-11-06, 22:51
Hello peeps! Hello viewers! (One and All!)

Had my Unit 4 sim, feel confident that I've passed it, but won't know till next week... :?

Interview went reasonably okay, but it was shortlisting for second interview, etc, so I don't think I will be going any further with them. Good experience, though...

So - Katie, you are no longer doing your usual 60 hour weeks, then?   Sorry to hear about the stress... :( :(

And, Rae, congrats on new home. When I got my first place, I felt like I was in a hotel, and that It was only temporary... It soon passed, though, and now looks like a tip... (Moved a couple of times, now!)

So, Bagpuss, any luck with the alternative therapy?

It keeps doing the out-of date certficate thingy on me, then taking ages.

Yessss!!!! The gang is back...

This thread seems quite popular...

But there's still only 4 of us talking!

Bagpuss1
14-11-06, 08:07
Well done with Sim,Toadface - I'm sure you've passed-you're very knowledgable :D

When do you know about interview?

Yes - therapy was really effective - very clever.... headache a lot better thanks.

Amazing the amount of viewings this thread has had - really weird that no one else joins in - perhaps we are the new soap opera of the moment and they're bored of Eastenders!! At least there's no murders in this soap ....yet.... we'll leave that to the thread about "capitals or not!!"

Have a great day everyone!

Hope you've recovered from your eventful weekend, Katie and I hope you've settled into your new home, Rae :D

xx

ToadFace
14-11-06, 09:01
They will contact me next week - so either, second interview, or thanks for coming, we regret to inform... etc. :?

Don't thank me. Thank the guys who sit on mountaintops for 70 years, with rice bowls, and attuning with the Universe...

Katie - what's happening with the jeep? How did it get there? Is your landlord going to sort out damage?

Good one - 'Capitals'...

Fancy a sing-song... :D :P :D :P

Baba-daba-daba-da, nah nah nah baba-daba-da,

To be the very best at being bad...

14-11-06, 11:31
So which one are you doing? Unit 4 is my weak bit, so I thought it would be horrendous. But got some decent questions this time. Is it unit 31, cos you're doing diploma, aren't you?

Is your fiance that dude in your photo?

14-11-06, 11:58
Yeah its Unit 31 i know how to work out what i need to answer i just cant get the right answers to work it out from! and yeah the dude in the photo is my fiance it was takin last week at a works do hes shaved his beard off since then and its the first time ive seen him wiyhout it he looks totally different!

ToadFace
14-11-06, 12:10
Have you had a look at the sample assessments at:

http://www.aat.org.uk/diploma/display/store3/item1349/

Also, there's the IAC support booklet at:

http://www.aat.org.uk/centres/display/store3/item24758/

How do you feel about the exam in Dec?

Aaaahhh... beards are kinky...

14-11-06, 12:16
Im ok about the exam ive got a practice exam to do to see what i need to revise but i think ive got the hang of most things now. Also i did practice simulations before the actual ones as they came in the Diploma package and i didnt do too badly on them but for the actual sim i just cannot work out the figures i need for my net profit margin.

Re Beards they may be kinky but a pain in the neck if it gets all prickly

ToadFace
14-11-06, 12:29
I've taken a look - how long do you get?

Most of them seem to need a computer...

We haven't touched a computer yet!

Worse if they only recently been trimmed - haven't 'softened' yet...

14-11-06, 12:37
3 hours you need a computer for the sage ones but not for the IAC one do we have to use a computer in the exam do you know or is it all just manual stuff? it looks as though its all just manual to me from looking at a past paper but im not sure

ToadFace
14-11-06, 12:45
As far as i can see from past papers, the support booklet, etc - it is all manual for IAC.

But you may have general knowledge type questions relating to use of computers, advantages of particular software, etc. Then, usual memos, 'emails', etc.

The IAC is a little more involved than PLB...

It seems a lot of work for only 3 hours!!! (unit 31 that is...)

14-11-06, 12:57
Well the computer stuff shouldnt be a problem we have an IT department that have given me some info and my fiance (Aidy) is a bit of an expert on them so i can get stuff from him too  it does seem a lot of work but the basic stuff such as debits and credits should be straight forward so i can concentrate on the more involved stuff

15-11-06, 12:21

15-11-06, 14:49
Hiya!

Sorry I haven't joined your natters - keep having trouble signing in...... was it Rae or Katie who jinxed me?? Didn't haven't have any problems until you mentioned it!

I am very envious of you three doing your exam - wish I could get mine out of the way too but unfortunately circumstance wouldn't allow

Katie - what a shock re your exam - glad you've managed to sort it out. :)

Rae - I agree with Katie - give your man a hefty kick up the bum! If he won't help you perhaps you should withdraw "privileges" - that will make him respond     Also, I speak from experience here - DON'T marry him until he sorts himself out or you will have a life time of misery and resentment!! :D

Got to go again now - back to work and maybe some coursework - I am soooooooooooooooooooo behind you lot!!

xx :)

15-11-06, 15:09
Sorry Bagpuss it was me that jinxed you!
Ive told him hes got to wait at least 3 years anyway! Not ready to settle down Yet!

Also think of it this way at least takin your exam later means you will have had more time to learn and remember everything!

And withdrawing privileges wouldnt work- its not fair on me!

xx

katieh
15-11-06, 15:30
i've been jinxed too it no longer tells me wen any of you have been chattin thats why i missed so much of the convo over the las couple of days!!!!

I was mortified over my exam an it has cost a lot of money to sit it now but thank god for understanding bosses i was ready for quiting yesterday. i actualy rang the college to tell them i was no longer doin the course but they were so understanding. i would of waited till nxt yr but then i wud of been behind every1 in my class an i ave not stressed an give up a job an stayed awake all this time to miss it.

rae i am doin my exam in oldham were r u doing urs?

god we are starting to sound like a soap opera hahahah

15-11-06, 15:49
Leeds- havent even been to leeds before so i have no idea where i need to be! oh well if i get to leeds early enough at least i can get lost a couple of times without being late!

katieh
15-11-06, 16:06
how come leeds? were are you from?
leeds is good for shoppin so if you get there early u cud do some xmas shoppin hehehehe

15-11-06, 16:16
Retford its not far but i tend to go to sheffield or Doncaster for shopping. Leeds is the closest and easiest to get to apparently only about 45mins on the train.

Also already got my xmas shopping done so will just have to spend money on me!

xx

Bagpuss1
15-11-06, 16:18
Girlie girls who enjoy shopping - hooray!!

Rae - as I typed "withdraw privileges", I thought wrong choice - I wouldn't want to either!!

I haven't looked into where my exam will be - hopefully not Oldham or Leeds!!!!!!

Where's Toadface - still on the mission to conquer all threads I think!!!!

xx

Bagpuss1
15-11-06, 16:20
Oh my goodness, Rae - are you Superwoman??? Do you wear your knickers over your tights???

How have you managed to fit in moving house, running after your fiance, done all your studying AND done you Christmas shopping????

I think you deserve to spend money on you ........ and keep your privileges!!

You are amazing!! :D

As for runnin after my fiance well things have to be done or ill never get them sorted :!:

And i didnt really have that much xmas shoppin to do had a day off work last week and went to Doncaster so got most of it then. Figured it was best to get it out of the way cos it leaves more time for study and enjoyin myself after the exam!

katieh
15-11-06, 16:35
good thinkin rae and mums are jus the best aren't they my mum was a gem wen i moved an still is coz i am jus gettin sorted wi furniture and stuff so she waits in for it to be delivered

15-11-06, 16:37

Did I hear something about 'loose women'? (Hmmm...)

I've been havin' probs an all... :?

I got a PM from Hayley after she had already gone on open forum - then Rae answered before me, so I left it to Rae with a bit of encouragement.

Then, it kept throwing up error '503', so I got busy with my notes while unable to get the forums. (Then typed it up - It's a pain, can't find spellchecker, etc...)

Given up on that mission... (Got bored of it!)

Hurray! - big hugs for daddy! Glad you got your exam sorted. Baffled as to how it got messed up(?)
(They're ace, parents, aren't they?)

Are you doing yours at FTC Kaplan, Rae? Have a map, just trying to sort out how to 'inport' into this forum - should be thru image, or something similar...

15-11-06, 16:58
yeah doin mine at ftc - thought ud forgotten us

Bagpuss1
15-11-06, 17:11
Hey, Toadface - I knew you hadn't deserted us - just having a well earned break I expect!!??

Agree re parents - trouble is mine say you never stop worrying etc about us whatever age we are so it looks like my soap opera life isn't going to come to an end any time soon!!!

15-11-06, 17:28
Hey ladies!

Does anybody know what the pass rate is my colleagues told me 75% but ive asked somebody else and they say its a lot less than that

ToadFace
15-11-06, 17:35
Not sure... thought it was 70% for each of section 1 and section 2 separately, but this might only be for PLB...

Still playing...

15-11-06, 17:43
Thats ok then ive just done a practice and got 89% on section 1 and 72% on section 2 unfortunatly for section 2 i completly forgot what batch control meant! Now i feel really dumb

Thanks!

xx

Bagpuss1
15-11-06, 17:45
I'm looking too - I thought I'd got it but the link on the website was being updated!!!

My colleague has done come CIMA, and apparently that pass rate is determined by the percentage of top scorers..... ie you could have one person who passes on 50% one year and another one who needs 90% to pass the next - if it's true, it doesn't seem very fair??!!

Bagpuss1
15-11-06, 17:46
Well done, Rae - that's brilliant!

I hate explaining what things are - most of the time I know what they are and how they work but can't put it into words!

ToadFace
15-11-06, 18:17
Fantastic! Well done! So you're sorted...

Have sent you email with map, Rae. :)

According to Student Handbook (p9), competence varies by the exam, and could be 70%, or more, to pass.

And, according to Support Booklet (p4) by Carol Harris, you need to be competent in both section 1 & 2 to 'be successful' (by that I would assume 'pass'...) The marks for the two sections are totalled separately. So, best assume 70% for each. If get higher, then even better.

Have sent email to aat 'rep' to confirm. Awaiting response...

Right guys -

I think we should avoid use of the word 's_*_x'.

Don't quote me on this!

But I think it is being picked up by external search engines and causing undue interest from non-aat personnel / non-members!

Thus, crashing the server!!!

(A few comments on another thread...) Sorry, guys...

So this is where the menage-a-quatre is. :D

I'm from the 'capitals' thread and although I work at the AAT and help to maintain the site, the views I express are mine.

The server crashing has nothing to do with certain words, but it is to with lunchtime traffic - we're hoping to get this resolved by the end of the month with some go-faster stripes for the server.

Threads and postings are only removed if they are libellous, breach copyright or offensive, such as racial hatred etc, so you guys are quite safe.

I've enjoyed reading this thread immensely - perhaps the two threads should compete for most popular ever.

Can anyone handle a menage-a-cinq or do you prefer the foursome?

katieh
17-11-06, 11:31

Hi Malcolm and ALN :D

Welcome to the madhouse!

ALN, I really sympathis with you - think we are very similar but it will all be ok in the end!

Malcolm - I've been watching your thread too - gets quite heated sometimes doesn't it??? Perhaps we're just shallow at "Study Buddy!!"

Hi Rae & Katie - are you all sorted now and found eveything you lost??!! :D

Toadie -where are you??? Nearly full house today! :D

xx

17-11-06, 14:24

17-11-06, 14:34
Thanks for the warm welcome, Bagpuss.

The power of advertising eh? This thread is amongst the most popular ever.

The capital thread does get a bit heated and we have gone down some interesting tangent boulevards!

A serious question - whilst we can't actually give you the answers to the exams upfront, and no, cash for answers doesn't swing it, leave that for the honours system, what sort of things on this website would help you guys revise?

I wonder what the world record menage-a-? is.

Malcolm

17-11-06, 14:51
Hey Malcolm i have to say that the past papers have been the most helpful to me also are there any study notes or tips for remembering things on the site anywhere?

Bagpuss1
17-11-06, 14:51
Hi Malcolm!

Why is our thread so popular?? Am I being naive?? Have you never had members natter like this before??

I can't answer question re revision yet because I'm doing my exam in June. I'm sure Toadie will come up with some suggestions though............

Toadie - where are you???

I'm sure the world record "menage-a......." is probably obscene and would make your eyes boggle........ oops am I lowering the tone of the AAT again!!!

17-11-06, 14:56
Dont worry Bagpuss i think we all lower the tone a bit - Probably why were so poular but nobody joins in!

17-11-06, 22:42
Hi Malcolm, Anita & Manda

Katie - alternative therapy for dealing with headaches (p6)
Apologies for comment. Regret as insensitive. Do your best. Good luck!
Look at the 'Views' column. Bagpuss started the thread, using 'New Topic' over to the left. I joined at about 50 views, others have joined since then - about 100 when you joined. This is count of how many people click on the thread to see what we are talking about. This thread is usually at the top of list, so probably first that visitors click on... (I think it only counts you on your first visit...)

Malcolm - are the forums being visited by outside visitors, or is it just members of aat?

So, the search engines aren't affecting the server?

I think one of my postings got pulled,
[ahem, having worked in industry, technically '...', and I pressed submit...]

Rae - you could go sightseeing, but watch out! It will be end of lunchtime - so everyone will be hurrying back to work and streets will be packed.
There's a pretty impressive art gallery! There's an 'information point' on Aire Street.

And, what are the other exams/courses that Rae and Katie have done?

Take care, Bagpuss.

Enjoy weekend, everybody. :D xx

Regarding your question, Malcolm:

I would like to request some 'musical wotsits' for the Smilies. Please...

Also, [added later = exam techniques!!! & revision techniques!!!]

http://www.aat.org.uk/students/display/store4/item1088/

and

http://www.aat.org.uk/students/display/store4/item1087/

pretty much cover the bases.

Mind Maps are planned for future.
(I've put a link to CJC's site in my Revision Summary, http://forums.aat.org.uk/forums/posts/list/13648.page )

Probably best, for the others to have a look [assuming that they actually bothered to pay attention!!!!!!], then see if they feel anything is missing- from any of the three!

Also, guys!:

Apparently, they don't tell you the percentage score either, just the 'pass/fail'. Some people prefer the % system...

Dreaming helps you in finding solutions to problems. It's natural, so don't worry! 8)

I've put together a big list from a lot of the other forums.

http://forums.aat.org.uk/forums/posts/list/13648.page

Give it a try and see if there is anything missing.

The aat has also put together some exam & revision tips. They are at the top of my other thread (erm... 4 up, I think...)

Have you subscribed to PQ (accounting) magazine? Very useful! I've just received my welcome pack for subscribing, and it has a study guidance CD included... Do you need the subscription details?
It's FREE! (from them i mean!!!) [ahem...)

Take it easy...

Hello everyone and hope you all had a good weekend.

Toadface, you've asked a couple of questions over the weekend, let me know if I've missed any.

Malcolm - are the forums being visited by outside visitors, or is it just members of aat?

So, the search engines aren't affecting the server?

Technically, anybody can register onto the forums but I would say 95%+ of people who have are connected with the AAT, be it members, students, lecturers, centres and members of staff.

We're hoping to have a couple of new widgets added to the server before the month is out which should improve the server's performance - these go faster stripes are a devil to stick down you know!!

Your message wasn't pulled by the way, I think you forgot to post it - I am one of two people who can remove messages and I know it wasn't me and wasn't him either.

If anybody wants to ask me questions about web/AAT stuff or just to chat (the latter is preferred) you can e-mail me at malcolm.stpierre@aat.org.uk

20-11-06, 13:44
Hey Katie trust me i have the same problems with the stuff in the book i find it much easier to sit and go through exams and then pick up where i am going wrong from them.

Has anybody got any tips on how to get boyfriends to get a job? He chucked his in the other week but doesnt seem to be getting anywhere with finding a new one! Its all too much stressin about that and my exam at the same time

Oh well things can only get better i suppose :)

Sorry Katieh I haven't. I was going to ask if anybody knew of any explosives experts to fix a large rocket to the backside of our server, lol.

I know exams can be stressful and for a lot of you, your futures are dependent on the results, but just try your best. Don't overdo the revising, have breaks from it.

Raerae,

When you say the bf isn't getting anywhere is that due to no vacancies, no motivation, a bit of both?

Whatever he specialises in, he should do a direct marketing exercise and advertise himself to applicable employers in a given area - mailmerge a letter to them - get the addressed from a phone book and if nothing else, it'll keep him occupied during the day.

Sign up with agencies, even if it's just getting a Christmas job to tide him over.

Katie,

Nooooooo!!! You do not want to cram in more studying after college. This will add even more stress and make you even more emotionoal.

When you get home from college, chill out, sit back on the sofa with no telly, have a drink and just reflect on what you're already got around you and what you have achieved in life so far.
