Hi there,

I'm sorry if this seems like a pointless question and a pointless post, but i'm kinda new to all this "Forum" stuff.

What is the difference between the Students General Forum and the Students Technical Forum?

I have used the General Forum a couple of times now and found this really helpful, but i'm confussed about the two??

Thanks

Gem x
I couldn't agree more with the above comment. Why is there two forums when it would just make sense for one? I've always wondered that.

Dan
It's a legacy from the old forums.

A couple of years ago we wanted to find a way to make the old forums more manageable. It was one big long list and this meant that messages very quickly disappeared off the bottom of the page.

Of course this didn't stop visitors scrolling down, but what was happening was that someone would post a message, only for someone else a few weeks later to post an identical one, because that first message was now a good way down the page and not immediately visible.

Our solution was to try to provide a bit more focus. We did discuss having a range of different forums (one for each unit or stage, one for study buddies, one for general, one for book swaps etc) but it didn't really work in that old format. So we decided simply to go for two - one for course work, help with projects, technical accountancy stuff (the technical forum), and one for general chat, study buddies, books (the general one). It sort of worked, but it's never been exactly precise.

When we launched these new forums a few weeks ago we wanted to see how they were working before making any further changes. Julian will be reviewing how they've performed, and your comments and suggestions about them, over the next few weeks - so yes, if the general feeling is that the two forums are a waste of space, we'll merge them.

Hope that explains it - if you do have ideas or suggestions about how to improve these forums then let us know.

Tony, AAT
Thanks for explaining Tony!!

Gem x
