View Full Version : Introduce yourself thread?
Hi all, just thought I would start an introduce yourself thread, as I think this new Off Topic Forum is a great idea, and it would be really nice to get to know each other a bit better, outside of accounting. I know there is a 'Super-Team' thread in another forum, (hats of to the guy (Robert?) who started that one) but how's about a less accounting type intro?
OK - Here's me! :D
My name is Bryony, shock horror, and I am 26. I work in Charity Finance - the reporting management accounts side. I live and work in London.
For fun I like to go for nice walks in the countryside (what there is in London) or sit at home doing needle crafts. Also I like to beat my other half at Tiger Woods on the Xbox. That is always entertaining. And I am a morris dancer. 8)
I love good music - of course other people might disagree with my idea of good! I love Morrissey, Tori Amos, 10,000 Maniacs, Natalie Merchant, Rachmaninov and Patti Smith.
Now your turn! :D

Good idea!
My name is Mandy, I was christened that (well actually Mandy Jane), not Amanda, so if anyone calls me Amanda, I ignore them!!! I'm 41, don't feel it, and work for Royal Mail. I work in Management accounts and have been there for 15 years. I drive a BMW, have a beautiful GSD (shown as avatar), obsessed with F1 and am on my 2nd marriage!!!! Music wise, I was a punk rocker  in my teens and saw many live bands (alas, not the Sex Pistols as I was just a bit too young, so I caught the after shock of it all), I still like loud music although at the moment I like my girls with attitudes eg, Pink, Christina and I have a soft spot for Robbie Williams too.
Ta Dah! Me summed up in a few sentences..

Excellent idea!
In my spare time I'm a frustrated writer. I've had some fiction published and my dream is to write a biography on someone I have spent donkeys years researching.
After AAT I intend studying a course with the London School of Journalism - this will be my 'me' time :!:
I'm an editor of a community mag which goes out to 3,000 homes and I also write articles and reviews for local papers.
Did I pick the wrong career... :?:
To keep fit I 'run' and belong to the best running club in the world. Their elete runners allow me to plod on behind at a very safe distance! So far, I've run a few half marathons and that is far too far :!:

Hi I'm Gem
I'm 17, only left school just over a year ago and am studying Intermediate. I work in a VERY stingey accountancy practice doing basic accounts, all the crap admin jobs and I do a lot of banking and sales in the agency we have.
I have been living with my partner for just over two months and I hate it! Because I never see my four gorgeous collies at home, or my horses, rabbit or cat and I had to leave my baby grand piano behind.
I used to play the piano, I am part of a Netball club(training and one match every week) and I do a little bit of horse-riding. I love to read and eat out at restaurants trying all kinds of foods.
Erm... I think that's pretty much me!

Hi everyone - I'm Anna and I'm 39...... the big 40 in March :D
I'm an accounts administrator for a construction company in Hampshire. I (usually) love my job so I'm very lucky and have really found my "niche." Unfortunately morale is very low here at the moment due to some major changes which have not been handled very well by the management - hopefully it will settle down again soon.
I am a mum of two - a son of nearly 19 and a daughter of 17.
I love the sea and I love walking so give me a beach and a sunny day and I'm more than happy :D I've got a border collie called Kizzie who is adorable and two sweet cats called Phyllis and Lilian!!
By the way, I use the name "Bagpuss" because that's the nickname I have been given by the chef at a local pub after wearing a pink and white stripey jumper ONCE!!!!!
I like a wide range of music - I went to my first ever live concert in September which was the lovely Robbie..... and next week I'm going to see Pink....!!
Hello Everybody!
My name is Rachael and im 19 working as a trainee in the accounts department at an insurance brokers so my general accounting work will be totally different to most of you as i dont deal with sales and purchases etc.
I have just moved into a flat with my boyfriend of 8 months and finding it a little difficult starting out on my own. I dont have any pets cos my landlord wont allow them but i used to have two adorable cats called pudding and felix.
i love listening to music my favourite being Bon Jovi or Bryan adams ........ hmm Bon Jovi.........

Very good Helen, like that!!! Didn't see it as that, but now you mention it, yeah, they are not bad, they are a very cheerful band and I can't help singing (badly) along when they come on. A few people I work with went to see them live before they became "famous" and said they were very good then.

Nice idea,
Paul, 23. Hopefully will be finishing this course in December (well february when we get the results) Next year my partner graduates as a nurse, so Im very excited, as with the employment situatuion at the moment in the NHS, we will probably have to move to a different area of the country for her to find work, which sounds like a fun adventure to me!!
I love playing guitar, listening to music (mainly rock and punk) reading, going to the gym, and erm....the pub!!!!!!!!
Not a scissor sisters fan, but I am off to see Dirty pretty things on Sunday night!! (Anyone a fan :-))

Bryony, erm, yeah, they have become very sucessful very quickly now they are in the public eye, so I guess they must be very good
PS I love your name, where does it originate from and not being too rude, can you spell it for me phonetically as I'm not sure how it's pronounced.
That's not rude at all! In fact it is very lovely of you.
It is an English name, Bryony is a vine that grows in the woods. It's dealy poisionous, but a really pretty plant. It is pronounced like the guys's name Brian with an e sound on the end. So like Brian-ee.
Edit - btw, I enjoy the work of the Scissor Sisters!

Wow, thank you, that's really cool. 8)
A damn fine idea and a good complement to the 'super team' thread!
I'm Robert, 39 and live in Lancing, West Sussex though originally from Mansfield (where real men are grown - the name says it all really). I work as jack-of-all-trades at a double glazing manufacturer and installer, covering accounts, IT, personnel manager and all round "do-er and fixer"...
I'm now divorced but have three lovely kids, two boys and a little girl who's my guardian angel... (damn, there goes my "street cred"!)
The only sport I play is badminton once a week followed by a beer or two afterwards. It always makes me laugh when people who've been to the gym complain how ker-nackered they are. I always say that I didn't actually go to the gym myself but feel perfectly fine! Usually raises an ironic smile...
I listen to all sorts of music but must admit a tendancy towards rock (well, okay if you can class Cradle of Filth and Slipknot as rock music!), even sometimes playing it extremely loud in my office if I don't want visitors!
Robert
I play badminton once a week too! Its really quite hard work isnt it!
I also live in retford not far from Mansfield!
Chris. One of the old farts of the forum at 41. I live in Newquay in Cornwall from which I hope to escape at some point. Started Technician in September, hoping to finish in July. Work wise I'm a web-site jack-of-all-trades but looking to move into accountancy at some point. Boring hobbies include reading, music and cooking.
If you want to know about my somewhat obscure musical taste you can check out my last.fm page (http://www.last.fm/user/cjcarne/)
Chris - where abouts in Newquay you from?
Our family has an apartment opposite Whipsiderry beach, try and spend as much time as possible down there!
I am down there for a week over new year!
Ah, maybe we could meet up for a drink. I'm near the zoo. I must say the days of me going out in Newquay on New Years Eve are well behind me though :)
Ah ha the zoo. I went there once, its the worst zoo ever.
The only disappointing thing about Newquay!
We usually go into the mermaid a couple of times (Im sure you know it) and mostly venture up to the oz bar.
I pass the zoo most days though going up the shops, under the aqua / via duct.
Do you work in Newquay to?
I work from home mostly, though I get out and about all over from time to time. Not been to the zoo since I was a kid so I've no idea what it's like these days. We used to go to the Mermaid during lunchtime at school when I was 17 - until we got barred. Ah the folly of youth.
Chris
I would live to live in Newquay, best place in the country!! I suppose Im glad I wasnt born there as you probably just take it for granted then?

Hi Michael,
What is your name on myspace? I wanna be nosey now!
you be nosey Bryony, you welcome! U arite then,
The Mozfather, fantastic, seen him twice like, Newcastle City Hall and the Sage in Gateshead. Have you seen him?
www.myspace.com/raintoners
only just put me songs i've wrote on last week, nothing on the site at the minute, i might at some point put some effort into it and make it look decent.
Have you got a myspace page then, am not really into all this cyber friends stuff like on their, its good for the music tho!
"There is a light that never goes out"
:D Yay! The light certainly hasn't gone out for me! Yes, I have seen Moz - about 7 times I think? 6 or 7. I went to Wembley on Friday to see him again, and not surprisingly he was superb. Again. He has always been consistently good when I see him. First time I saw him I was invited to his aftershow party by Boz Boorer, as I knew him at the time, and he knew that I was a fan. Anyway, needless to say they were all there except Morrissey, but I doubt Boz would have invited me if he thought Morrissey would actually be there!
Anyway, no, I don't have a Myspace place... yet, although I feel the crushing pressure from all around. I feel like I will crumble soon, and set one up... Dammit yes I am sure. I agree with you, the 'cyber friends' thing doesn't really appeal, although I have made good friends over the internets in the past. I feel that MySpace wants the whole world to be one big friend, and I am far too cynical for that!!! I'll check yours out as well - if I can get the sound to work on this PC, anyway!
Myspace sucks actually :? although I couldn't resist either and set up a profile
I'm Kate, 22, working as a corporate accounts assistant. I really enjoy it. I started the ACA just over a year ago after graduating with a maths degree, and didn't do too well :( so, decided to start at the beginning!! well, sorta....started AAT at Intermediate stage earlier this year (around June I think), and took ECR & FRA just last week. Hoping the results are good so I can crack on with Technician stage!!!
I love myspace...think i'm addicted

Helen, I cant believe you struggle to get a jaffa cake in your mouth!
Don't eat biscuits but can be partial to cake. Can someone please explain to me the stupid saying "Can't have your cake and eat it??" Why Not!! It's not for display purposes only is it!!! Of course you are going to have your cake and not only eat it but blooming well enjoy it!!!
Because once your cake is eaten, you no longer have it. The act of eating your cake destroys it. (c.f. riding a bicycle) Once your cake is eaten, you can no longer flaunt your cake posession. At least, I think that's the point.
My grandmother used to say "you can't eat your cake and still have it", which is probably where I got that interpretation from.
I am a cake fan, especially with a nice cup of coffee- but never dunked. That's weird. Maybe for ginger nuts or other dry biscuits.
I believe chocolate-covered hobnobs to be a waste of perfectly good chocolate.
Jaffa cakes, however, I eat slowly and delicately, savouring each bite
this post has been edited by the author, who got a little bit graphic with his Jaffa cake eating :)

PA does all paye year ends for the 50 or so clients that we do wages for. She has all p35's ready for boss to sign off next week. She has started verifying cis for the clients we do cis for, about 10( with up to 20 subbies each) and I do all year ends and vat. No vat this month so concentrating on year ends. Told all clients that I need work in asap because I am now working alone. so far they are being efficient. Makes a change!
I hope that you are able to get up to date soon. Working late on a Friday is rotten. I used to when I was in sales.

Hi All
I'm jps (obvious giveaway by the username)
I'm 44, currently slogging my guts out for a letter delivery company that covers the whole of the UK.
Not enjoying it at all, currently looking for a job in an accounts environment. Something that will give a sense of purpose, satisfaction and progression.
Have just given up television as I can't afford to renew the licence on my money. Moved from London to Cumbria (always wanted to live there) not enough hours at the letter company, so moved again to Derbyshire (don't enjoy it here at all - dull county), wished I'd stayed in either London or Cumbria.
I like cooking, DIY, going to the gym and reading. Can't afford to do much else. Looking to move again when I've finished decorating. Watch this space.
Also looking for back issues of aat magazine anyone looking to "recycle" theirs send me a pm. Thanks.
