Would it be possible to add in an option to scroll to the first or last page of a thread?

At the moment, if you want to read the latest post in a thread you have to scroll through all the pages to get to it.

I know really huge thread don't happen that often, but it would be a nice feature to have for when they do.

Hes right! Try looking at the study buddy thread it takes 3 days to get to the last page! lol!

Yes that thread is a good example!

I'm a she not a he, but don't worry - you're not the first to say that! Not sure why people assume I'm a he though!!

Well, since you deleted yourself from the "super team" thread, phunky, no-one knows who you are now or even your first name!

Maybe, you should explain why you adopted the weird phunkyphantom22 name in that case?! :?

Spill, please...

Yeah I did that because I had been discussing my salary on another thread and was easily identifiable to anyone who knows me - didn't want them knowing it was me and how much I earn! A girl I used to work with at my old company is doing AAT too and if she came on here and read it, she'd find out I was earning about £3k more than she was before I left!

Well my name is Jo, so people could still think I was a bloke! Not sure why though as I am quite girly, but obviously you can't really tell that much about someone from some forum postings!

phunkyphantom came from a dance song that was out in the late 90's - phunkyphantom: get up, stand up - and 22 is my lucky number!

Hi there,

if you click on the "Forums index" page on the top right by the "search" "refresh" etc buttons, it will take you to a page that says Category Listing, scroll down and it will show you all the diffents forums along with who posted, what day and time they posted and there is an arrow pointing to a page, click on that and it takes you to the last thread. If you look on the bottom of the Category Listing page, you will also see who has logged on.
Hope that helps you a bit!
Mandy

Hiya

I actually mean once you're in a thread - i.e. you do what you said and click on the threads with latest posts (blue envelopes), then when you are in the thread it takes you to the first post of that thread - not the latest one.

You have to scroll to the very last page (by using the "1,2,3... next" links)to read the latest post on that thread - it would be handy if there were extra buttons for first page and last page as if the thread is huge, it takes ages to scroll through to the latest post!

Have you tried clicking on the little white page with an arrow by it on the forums index rather than the blue envelope? If you hover over it you will get the hand with the pointy finger, click on that and it will take you to the last thread. I know what you mean about scrolling around, some sites have an option for the first and last page as well as each individual page.

I see what you mean now! Thanks - that is useful!

Although it takes you to the latest post in that forum, so if there are new posts in more than one thread it still isn't any good i.e. if a post is made in another thread and you want to look at one which was posted in earlier, you have the same problem.

You can also set up the last page of a particular thread as a 'favourite' within your browser.

Use hyperlinks to connect separate parts of the thread, eg your first post (editable) to your latest post.

And the methods presented by wrangler...

I don't really want to add threads to my favourites though - I have too many on there as it is! :-)

There are long ways of doing it, just thought it would be a handy improvement to add in a 'go to first/last page' option....

I know that I keep banging on about the OU discussion forums ......

The last post is shown first when they are opened and if the OU software is used, searching the threads is a piece of cake.

Soapbox away for the day. Really must get on with my essay!

I agree. That bugs the hell out of me. I haven't been in the study buddy thread for that reason.

I have a way around it:

When you open a thread, the first fourteen posts are shown, and the URL looks like this:

http://www.aat.org.uk/forums/posts/list/13881.page

If you then go in to the address bar, and just after the word list add a / and a number then the forum loads the post number you input. For example, if you changed the address above to

http://www.aat.org.uk/forums/posts/list/5/13881.page

(note the /5) then the fifth and subsequent posts would be shown. The forum already tells you how many posts are in the thread, so putting in that number would take you to the last post.

Bryony -

Malcolm keeps updating the hyperlink that is in Bagpuss's first post, so that it goes to the last page (circa 50ish).

Is this where the research skills comment came from? If it is I wholeheartedly agree!
