NI Contributions - trial balance

Can anyone please tell me if National Insurance contributions for someone who is self-employed are an expense or a liability in a trial balance. I think they are paying voluntary contributions.<BR>Thanks

In self-employed accounts, NI contributions of any sort are treated as drawings and would go in the Proprietors Capital part of the balance sheet
