View Full Version : health and safety
Hello out their i'm a foundation student having big problems with health and
safety can any one point me in the right direction!!!.....
In what way are you struggling?

Have you got information from work about their policies etc!! Thats a good start!

Dani, cut down on the Bensons and don't drink too much over the festive period.

And another tip I always find comes in handy, particularly at christmas is... don't eat yellow snow.
So after getting some info. from my workplace, what's the next step to take?
What do i have to do with the information?
Basically just stick it in ya portfolio and at some point u will be able to cross reference it wiv yastudent handbook u have got hope i helped xx
Thanks for your reply, but i've got another question for you!
Is the health and safety policy statement of your workplace the only thing needed for the portofolio or are there other things to take into consideration?
Hi there, sorry to but in on your discussion but I have just finished my portfolio. I found the best thing to do was go through the health and safety standards and firstly check what I needed, for example, your works health & safety policy (which they should have by law) will cover a number of points in the standards. You will then need to find your fire procedures, first aid arrangements, etc and if I couldnt get hold of anything, make it up!!! The odds are that no-one will ever read your portfolio anyway!!!!! My college were particularlly helpful with our portfolio becauseif there was anything missing that our workplace didnt have, they tended to have everything that was required of them by law, your college (if you are studying in one) shouldnt have a problem in you taking copies of their fire procedures, ect.

If you cant get hold of any of these I really would suggest going on a health & safety website and copying/prinint information off there and then putting it into your owns words.

I hope this helps, personally I dont see the point in doing the health & safety on an accounts course. I enrolled to eventually become an accountant, not a health & safety geek!!!!
The health and safety policy statement of my work is a very large file and to tell the truth, i don't know how to manage it! can you please give a tip on that as well?
hope so, thanks.
Pius
Just dont worry about it too much - stick it in your portfolio and cross ref where you can - H & S is a waste of time anyway, just make it loook like you covered evrything.
I agree, just throw it all in the file, take your standards and go through them one by one, finding the items in the health & safety policy. You might be lucky and only need that one document. I only work for a small company and had to find bits from here there and everywhere!
Thank you all for your support but, one thing is that i have even started filling my portfolio because i don't know from where to start!
Is there any volunteer out there who can realy give me some tips on starting it?
I will be grateful,
Pius.
