View Full Version : Units 8&9
I have just started units 8 and 9 home study with FTC, however, I do not find the text book very thorough in their explanations and examples. Could anyone give me a name of a good accountancy book that they have used for these units?

Thanks

Susan
Hi, I have been studying from the BPP Books - there are mixed feelings about these on the forums. I personally find them vague in the MOST important BITS!

I have heard that Osbourne Books, and Folks Lynch Books are good, and am trying to find a seller on the forums!

Thanks, Lorna.
You will have to be careful buying used Osborne books, as the books have been revised "New Standards", this year, so I am not sure how you will go on if you use the "Old Standards"
Susan,

I have used FTC and Osbourne and borrowed BPP, but at college we are using EQL learning packs (I also used this series for intermediate last year). I have found that they are laid out in a way that aids learning. They explain each principle in turn and then give a worked example. At the end of each chapter are a list of key words and their meanings along with a summary of the main points (great for revision) followed by questions. There is also an area on each page for you to make your own notes. The only thing I would say is that there aren't many practice questions for some areas, but they do also publish an assessment pack, which I can't comment on as I have never used those. They do have the books in the revised standards too.

Address : EQL International Ltd, Livingstone Software Innovation Centre, 3 Michaelson Square, Kirkton Campus, Livingston, EH54 7DP

The company's tel no is 01506 472255 but they put me through to 0208 7402211 which is actually BPP who are distributing them for EQL now.

The learning pack for your unit is £15.95 and the assessment pack £12.95. Postage is £2.00 per book if you order direct but book shops don't have any problems getting them providing you have the ISBN.

I think they also publish software.

Hope this is of use,

Good Luck
susan,

further to my last note, there is an ad in the aug Accounting Technician mag with all the EQL details

Karen
Thanks to all who replied. I will look further into these books and see what is best. EQL sounds good however.

SusiW
