View Full Version : What Industry do you work In ?
Im new to the forum. I have been working for a private property company in Manchester for 4 years. I have been qualified for 2 years Im interested to hear from people to see where they work and the kind or roles they undertake ?
I just discovered this forum a week ago. I gained MAAT in 2000 and work as an administrator in an infant school. I have never met another MAAT who works in a school and would love to know if there are any!
Hi Schoey,

I gained MAAT a few weeks ago at the ripe old age of 57 and I work full time as the finance manager of a charity. For several years I was the only finance person and did all the work from bookkeeping & computer records right through to producing financial statements and accounts ready for audit. The charity is expanding now and there will be two other people working with me.

Chris
I work for a top 10 accountancy firm as audit senior. Qualified MAAT in 2000 and just got my finals to take in July to qualify ACA. Contemplating the move into industry in next 18 months, ideally into motor industry.

Tim

I do know of a lady who is a Finance Officer at a "special" school who has gained MAAT, but don't know any in the primary field within my council.

Hope this helps.
Jez
Thanks. Would he or she be willing to contribute to this forum?
Hi Schoey

I qualified in 2001. I'm a 42 former head chef who has worked firstly as a Trading Accountant for the same contract catering company I was cooking for. Then after redundancy, I have worked as a Financial Accountant in the NHS on an Interim contract.

The AAT was my way out of kitchens and into a normal life.

Alexander
I work in retail, in the finance section as a Senior Cash Accounts Clerk with no previous experience (August 2003). I used to work for an IT company as an Accounts Payable Assistant.
Hi

Another charity finance bod! I thought that I was the only one - should we set up a network do you think. I know we're in short supply
I qualified MAAT in 1999 when I was working as a cost analyst for a chemicals manufacturer. I moved almost immediately to the Treasury function and undertook the corporate treasurers international cash management certificate (CertICM). I then left and joined a French engineering company for 9 months before joining the UK treasury operation of a US company (based in Manchester) which makes automotive parts for supply to aftermarket and original equipment manufacturers ( we make bits of engines for Ford, GM, Renualt, Peugeot, Fiat, Mercedes etc !)
Currently studying for my corporate treasurers membership exams (AMCT)
I'm also a volunteer careers advisor for the AAT
Hiya,

I just received notice of competance yesterday. Im 18 and work in a top ten accy company in Manchester. Ive been here for 2yr 6mths and still enjoy the work. Although being the youngest at the co. i still do all the undsirable jobs.

I now work in the pharmacueticals industry, having been made redundant twice in the IT sector. I have always worked for US owned companies (funny that!). Have worked in finance for over 3 years now, having left college with A-Levels. I'm Assistant Accounant - responsible for AP, Bank Recs, month-end journals etc. Its good fun, interesting - and I'm currently studying for AAT Intermediate.
I am a technician level student (being nosey on your page) and am a Finance Officer in a junior school. In my area I only know of myself and my friend (that I dragged along with me) who have Level 3 and another who stopped after level 2.

I must admit that I didn't start this whole process with school work in mind, but I have found that things I have learnt have helped me along the way.

N U and D
I qualified MAAT in June 2003, currently working as Accounting Technician in Local Government. My main responsibilities are Bank Rec, Budget setting, Budget monitoring, and Final Accounts for year end.
My employers are going to sponser me to gain the CIPFA qualification, I understand this may be a big jump from AAT. Has anyone else started or completed this qualification?
When I started Intermediate Level I started working in a primary school. Since becoming a member (Nov 03) I have gained promotion and now go around all the schools in my area, offering advise and support. I believe the AAT offers an excellent grounding for bigger and better things.
Just found this forum today!

I have just completed the Technician Level.

I currently work in the home care sector, and have headed-up the accounts department for over 3 years.

We look after the elderly/disabled through referals received from the social services. Our department produces the relevant invoices for social services, Management/cost accounting as well as the payroll for all staff.
