About us

6,000 people qualify with the AAT every year, and employers ranging from Proctor and Gamble to the NHS acknowledge the benefits of employing AAT qualified accounting staff.
Established in 1980 to provide a recognised professional qualification and membership body for accounting technicians, we are:
- a worldwide organisation with more than 100,000 members - and the only membership body that is accredited to offer NVQs/SVQs in Accounting at Levels 2, 3 and 4 (the AAT's Accounting Qualification, which is also attainable via a Diploma route.)
- established as the standard for accounting technicians
- a not-for-profit organisation: everything we do is for the benefit of our members: any money we make is reinvested
- a lobbying organisation committed to improving standards of competence and professional development in accounting and related areas
- dedicated to offering extensive support to all our members and their employers, through our continuing professional development (CPD) scheme, professional regulations, ethical guidelines and more.
Our sponsoring bodies
We are sponsored and supported by four of the main UK chartered accountancy bodies, from whom you may receive exemptions if you decide to progress to chartered accountancy:
