About distance learning tuition

Some students find distance learning – studying from home – a flexible way to study for AAT qualifications. Distance learning doesn’t involve travelling for classes, and students can often set their own pace for study.

You may also hear distance learning called:

  • Open learning.
  • Flexible learning.
  • Home study.
  • Correspondence courses.

Many AAT approved training providers offer distance learning options, but each will deliver the training differently, so do talk to any providers you’re considering to weigh up the differences and find the method that works best for you.

Skills tests assessments

As part of your studies you will need to sit your skills test assessment in a controlled environment. This may involve

  • The assessors visiting you in your work place.
  • Sitting a supervised assessment at a training provider.
  • Making arrangements to sit a supervised assessment at work.

The training provider you enrol with will advise you of how they would like you to be assessed for the skills tests.

Exams

Paper based exams are held twice yearly; in June and December.

If you live far from your distance learning provider, you can sit your exams at another college nearby. The exam entry form you receive will include a list of local training providers who accept distance learning students to sit their exams.

Some training providers also provide AAT computer based (rather than paper based) exams. Ask your chosen training provider if they have added computer based exams to their timetable. Find out more about computer based exams.

Our list of  distance learning providers (below) has more information. It includes contact details for the training providers – do contact them to discuss costs, enrolment times and more details about how they provide their learning.
