Gain full AAT membership with your part qualifications

If you are only part-qualified you can stil enjoy the benefits and advantages of full AAT membership. Find your existing qualification and follow the information and AAT joining requirements.

Part-qualified with ACCA

You can join AAT as a full member and recognise your ACCA qualifications. You'll also need to provide employer-verified work experience in specific areas and complete our online professional competence test. To start the process, please send us your details to receive your AAT full member application pack. These are the steps you will need to take once you receive it.

Step one - check you’re eligible

You can take this route if you've completed or gained exemption from the following ACCA Fundamentals units under the current syllabus (introduced December 2007):

  • F1 Accountant in Business.
  • F2 Management Accounting.
  • F3 Financial Accounting.
  • F7 Financial Reporting.

Plus at least one of the following units:

  • F6 Taxation.
  • F8 Audit and Assurance.

Step two - registration

Submit your details to AAT using our online form. We will then forward your AAT number, application form and work experience and reference form within five working days.

Step three - work experience and professional reference

Complete the 'work experience and reference' form and have it signed off by your employer (or a qualified accountant if you're self employed). Your completed form will:

  • confirm that you've proven your competence in the workplace where elements of the AAT syllabus aren't covered by your ACCA qualifications
  • show you've gained 1 year's relevant work experience (or the equivalent part time)
  • provide details of the professional referee recommending you for full membership.

Step four - application and payment

Complete and return your application form, along with:

  • your completed 'work experience and reference' form
  • evidence of your ACCA qualifications/exemptions
  • a payment of £176 to cover your one-off admission (£45) and subscription fees (£131).

Step five - professional competence test (PCT)

You'll choose a date to sit your online PCT when you return your application form. Your employer will need to enter an access code confirming your identity, and provide a quiet space and computer for you to use.

Part-qualified with CIMA

You can join AAT as a full member and recognise your CIMA qualifications. You'll also need to provide employer-verified work experience in specific areas and complete our online professional competence test.

Step one - check you’re eligible

You can take this route if you have completed the following units from CIMA's Certificate in Business Accounting and Professional Qualification (2005-2010 syllabus):

  • Certificate in business accounting
  • FFA Fundamentals of financial accounting
  • MFA Fundamentals of management accounting
  • Professional Qualification
  • FA Financial analysis

  • FA Financial accounting
  • MA Management accounting
  • FR Financial reporting
  • FM Financial management, systems and techniques

Diploma Level

  • TAX Taxation or A&A Audit and assurance

  • MI Management information
  • FA Financial accounting
  • Plus either ASS Assurance and A&A Audit and assurance or PT Principles of taxation.
