An increasing number of qualified accounting technicians wish to progress to a higher education degree in accounting, finance or even an unrelated area.

Currently, the following institutions offer exemptions for successful AAT student members. For information about Foundation Degrees, please click here.

The following guidelines apply at the time of publication and you should contact the appropriate body direct for formal confirmation of the exemptions gained by completing your AAT qualification.

Holders of NVQ/SVQ level 4 will be considered for entry onto year one of the BSc Accounting for Management programme. Applicants must have strong academic skills such as GCSE's, 'A' levels or their equivalent.

BS (part of Bolton Institute of Higher Education) recognises AAT for entry onto the BA (Hons) accountancy programme. The entry point of each applicant varies, but as a minimum BBS normally offer direct entry to the second year. In some cases exemption is available from all or part of the second year.

Leeds Metropolitan University

Holders of NVQ/SVQ Level 4 will be considered for direct entry to level 2 of the Accounting & Finance degree (available full- and part-time). Applicants must also have GCSE passes (grade C or higher) in Maths and English. Each case will be considered on its own merits, and students with knowledge gaps at Level 1 would be counselled and may be encouraged to attend additional classes in order to plug the gaps.

Applicants wishing to study for the Accounting & Information Systems degree would be required to demonstrate prior learning and experience in the Systems area.

Leeds Metropolitan University will treat the Diploma pathway qualification as being equal and qualifying for the same treatment as the NVQ/SVQ pathway.

Holders of NVQ/SVQ level 4 are also eligible to apply for the Foundation Degree in Accounting. As AAT graduates you will be awarded significant exemption from this degree and will only be required to study 4 modules, two of which are work based. The study mode is by distance learning and tutor work based visits.
