Speaker - Paul Coleman from Weightmans

This session will cover the basics of Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and succession planning. The two key points will be the advantages of receiving estate planning advice from a STEP qualified solicitor as compared to the use of a DIY Will, and how incorporating trusts into Wills can enable more of the estate to be passed on to loved ones. Basics of the various Inheritance Tax allowances will be set out, including how and when the Residence Nil Rate Band can apply. The use of trusts in Wills will be discussed, with an explanation of the pros and cons of this approach. Finally, a number of case studies will be presented, showing how these apply in practice.

Paul is a private client specialist with extensive experience dealing with business owning clients, professionals, landlords, agricultural clients and landed estates. Paul advises on all aspects of tax planning, Trusts, Wills as well as on the use of personal or Family Investment Companies and Partnerships and LLPs, offering bespoke solutions where required.
