Volunteering opportunities

Volunteering can help you build on your skills and let you use them to benefit your community. For instance, you might be looking to move into a management position but haven’t had much experience with leadership and communication. Taking on a voluntary role could improve your problem-solving and public speaking skills and allow you to meet new people.

AAT members have financial skills that are much in demand with many organisations seeking volunteers, and we want to encourage members to bridge that gap.

Governors for Schools

Governors for Schools exists to improve educational standards so children and young people have the chance to realise their full potential.

Becoming a school governor is a fantastic opportunity to test and develop your skills and knowledge in a new environment while giving back to your local community.

Visit the Governors for Schools website.

Member volunteering stories

Many AAT members also volunteer in non-AAT initiatives. Read some of their inspirational stories.

I'm Accounting Chair at Relay for Life Southampton, a year-round team fundraising event for Cancer Research UK. It's amazing as I get to use my skills from the qualification and for future volunteers. To AAT members thinking of getting involved in volunteering I say: Go for it! You meet some wonderful people and develop great skills, and the experience you gain looks great on a CV.
Lee, AAT professional member since 2001
I am currently Honorary Treasurer of the Scarborough RNLI, a charity which aims to save lives at sea, educate on the dangers associated with the sea and shoreline, and to teach children to swim. I love the feeling of giving something back to my community, meeting people and to think that in a small way my contribution to the RNLI helps save lives at sea.
Ian, AAT professional member since 1981
I volunteer with Crisis at Christmas who help and support homeless people. My role includes updating databases, communicating with "guests", liaising with volunteers and other accommodation centres, and providing advice and guidance. I really enjoy the happy attitude and fun, as well as being able to help others in need and be part of a team.
Coral, AAT professional member since 2004
