Join AAT from another professional body

Even if you haven’t studied with AAT there are a number of options available for you to gain your AAT professional membership status.

Becoming a professional member of AAT is your opportunity to broaden your skills and take your career to the next level. You could boost your earning potential, stand out to clients and employers, enhance your skills and even start your own practice – and there are other benefits of professional membership besides.

Join as a full member (MAAT)

You can apply to become a full member if at least one of the below applies.

  • You're part-way through a professional qualification with ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW or ICAS.
  • You've been awarded a professional qualification by ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW, ICAS, AIA, CAI, IFA, NIAT, ATSA (formerly AATSA), NZICA or HKIAAT.
  • You're a professional member of ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW, ICAS, AIA, CAI, IFA, NIAT, ATSA (formerly AATSA), NZICA, SCAAK or HKIAAT. This means you will have been awarded their professional qualification and completed the required amount of work experience in order to achieve professional status.
  • You have an accounting or finance degree from one of our partner universities.

How to apply

As part of your MAAT application you'll be asked to provide evidence of your completed modules or your professional membership. 

Fully qualified applicants will need to:

  • Provide evidence of work experience
  • Nominate a professional referee
  • Pay their AAT admission and annual membership fee

Part-qualified applicants will need to:

  • Provide evidence of work experience
  • Nominate a professional referee
  • Pay their AAT admission and annual membership fee
  • Take an online professional competence test

Join as a bookkeeping member (AATQB)

You can apply to become a bookkeeping member if at least one of the below applies.

  • You have achieved any of these qualifications:
    • ICB Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounts
    • IAB Level 3 Diploma in Bookkeeping
    • IAB Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping
    • IAB Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounting
    • IAB Level 3 Diploma in Accounting or Advanced Bookkeeping
    • ICB Level 3 Diploma in Manual Bookkeeping
  • You hold professional membership of ICB or IAB.

How to apply

You can apply online to become an AAT bookkeeping member. You will need to pay your AATQB annual membership fee when you apply and share copies of your relevant qualification/membership certificates if they weren’t issued by AAT.
