AAT's Annual Report 2018-19 booklet

AAT has published it 2018–19 Annual Report, providing an overview of AAT’s performance during the last financial year.

The report provides AAT members, the wider accountancy industry and other interested parties with detailed information about how AAT has created value for its various communities over the past 12 months, as well as how the organisation operates in the wider business environment.

AAT Chief Executive Mark Farrar said: “The 2018–19 financial year saw AAT deliver a strong performance in a challenging operating environment. The number of new technician members grew, while apprenticeship starts in the accountancy industry have held firm at a time when most sectors saw significant falls.

“While the Brexit uncertainty clearly remains front of mind nationally, there are plenty of other external factors that present opportunities for AAT in the coming years – not least evolving technology which continues to affect our members. We look forward to strengthening our aspiration to be at the heart of businesses in the months to come.”

Some key highlights from the report include the following.

  • AAT added payroll as a service that AAT Licensed Bookkeepers are now able to offer, subject to experience.
  • The 2018 AAT Achievement Ceremony attracted a record 800 attendees.
  • In the Middle East, AAT successfully designed and developed a new international tax qualification for Gulf Cooperation Council countries which have recently adopted VAT, the teaching of which started in April 2019.
  • The organisation has continued engaging with the government on broadening the apprenticeship levy into a skills levy, and liaises directly with HMRC over latest Making Tax Digital developments.
