The eight AAT interns for summer 2019

An award-winning initiative has continued for a second year as AAT played host to a new batch of interns for summer 2019.

AAT again partnered with social enterprise The Brokerage who source interns and work closely to develop a career-enhancing six-week programme. The eight new interns secured positions across the organisation, including in HR, Professional Standards and Customer Services.

Aaron Phiri, who interned in the Strategy and Professional Standards team at AAT, said: “It was amazing. I got to pick up various practical skills which I can now carry on, such as analytics, which I used on multiple projects including one for anti-money laundering. I also worked on Excel and built up many technical skills. I’m glad I had this opportunity.”

Alicia McAloon, Senior HR Advisor at AAT, has been heavily involved in the running of the internship programme at AAT. She said: “The internship aligns with our responsible business strategy and all staff really benefit from the interns being here. It’s the second year we’ve done it and it really brings energy to the whole building. It’s refreshing to see enthusiastic students who are the next generation in line for the world of work.

“Staff also gain management experience, especially those who have interns for the first time. As paid members of staff, interns also bring their skills to the business and help with workload.”

The interns began their AAT journey on 1 July and finished on 9 August. They were all paid the London Living Wage during their six-week stint at AAT.
