The Annual Report and accounts for the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) provides an overview of our performance from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.

As AAT President, I’ve been so very proud to champion AAT qualifications as a route to a career in accounting. In my working life, I’ve found colleagues working in finance who never had an opportunity to study and qualify. AAT gives access to a recognised standard of attainment and I advocate for AAT at every opportunity.

Growing our community of professional Accounting Technicians with a 3% growth in professional membership numbers.

Continuing to support our members who want the flexibility and independence of being their own boss, with a 9% increase in AAT licensed member applications.

Championing apprenticeships as a valued route into the profession, with apprenticeship starts up by 12.6% and more than 3,700 completions.

Ensuring Accounting Technicians are understood and valued in the industry, through thought leadership and lobbying central government.

Continuing to support our students, members, and partners with best in class service.

Widening access to the profession, through our new CPD-led professional pathways.

2022/2023 was my first full year as AAT CEO and it's been one of renewal, refocus and relevance. Renewal because we launched our new suite of qualifications in September 2022. Refocus and relevance because we re-evaluated AAT's purpose in a post-pandemic world, to ensure that we would be able to grow and thrive. The result was the launch of our Securing future relevance to 2030 strategic plan in February 2023. AAT's achievements in the past year have helped set the foundations for beginning our future direction. And I'm confident that AAT is well placed to help the profession tackle the accountancy skills shortages and other challenges the industry might face.
