Technical requirements for sitting practice assessments
Before you start a practice assessment or remotely invigilated assessment, please ensure your device is configured according to the requirements specified on this page.
These requirements are also listed on the remote invigilation page.
Suitable devices
Practice assessments can be sat on a laptop or desktop computer that runs on:
- Windows 10 and 11
- macOS Ventura 13.x and higher (see below for restrictions against running the Management Accounting: Techniques (MATS) assessment on Macs).
They can't be sat on:
- a Chromebook laptop, tablet or detachable
- a smartphone, like an iPhone or Android phone
- a tablet, like an iPad or Android tablet
- a Linux device.
Full technical requirements
Before sitting a practice assessment in the AAT Lifelong Learning Portal, or a remote invigilation assessment scheduled by your assessment centre, ensure your device meets these requirements.

A Windows computer with Microsoft Excel, and macros enabled
- This practice assessment requires the Windows version of Microsoft office.
- This practice assessment is unable to be sat on a Mac device as the version of Microsoft office for Macs is not the sme as the Windows version, and is not supported.
- Cloud-based Microsoft Excel is not supported and you will be required to have this installed on your device.
- When navigating to the tasks that contain spreadsheets, Excel will automatically launch and ask you to enable macros.
Start your practice assessments
Now you're set up, you can head to the AAT Lifelong Learning Portal and try a practice assessment. You'll find them under "Your goals: collections of activities".Choose your qualification and unit, then click "Launch," select "Launch" again, and click "Practice assessments".
