Financial Analyst/Officer

MI5

Permanent Full time Job share Office based

Job details

Hours: Full time up to 37 hours, depending on location. Part time, compressed hours and job share opportunities available.

Add value where it matters most.

MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses, and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. A role in MI5 means you’ll do unique and challenging work in a supportive and encouraging environment, making a real difference to UK national security.

We’re hiring Financial Analyst/Officers across a number of mission-critical areas. Ideally, you’ll be studying towards your Level 4 AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians), but you can finish (or even start) your studies with MI5, and we’ll provide the support to help you do this. And/or you’ll have experience working in a financial environment. Importantly, you’ll have a genuine passion for finance, an aptitude for figures and spreadsheets – and be committed to learn and develop your skills while making a real difference to our operations.

You could join the Financial Analysis team, where you’ll undertake critical analysis of financial systems, helping teams understand our financial position. You’ll facilitate accurate reporting to managers by interpreting and formatting data and identifying trends. Collaborating with your team to produce insightful reports. Together you’ll help inform decision-making across our business.

Or, you might join Financial Accounting and Reporting. This team oversees the summary, analysis and reporting of financial transactions made by the agencies. Proactive, positive, and collaborative, you’ll collate evidence, estimates and audit requirements, input data and ensure transfers to systems are actioned.

Our Financial Operations team oversees Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Expenses and Cash Management. As a Financial Officer, you’ll oversee accurate, efficient transactions either in a business-facing role, or alongside finance colleagues. Whether you’re preparing statistical reports or delivering payments and receipts, you’ll be the first point of contact for teams across different business areas – and play an active part in promoting financial awareness.

Additionally, there are other teams within the finance function that you could explore. Due to the sensitive nature of these roles, you’ll be fully-office based. However, we know how important a good work/life balance is, which is why we offer compressed hours, job share opportunities as well as flexibility with your start and finish times.

Whichever area you choose, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive workplace where you’ll receive plenty of support right from day one. We’re proud to have dedicated support networks within our organisation, and to have achieved ‘Leader’ status as a Disability Confident employer. You’ll look to build on your skills and take advantage of dedicated training, including opportunities to gain professional qualifications.

If you’re ready to keep the UK safe while developing a truly meaningful career, we’ll value you.

At MI5 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions.
