CPD for accountants: take your career to the next level
Continuing professional development (CPD) is a learning process designed to help you maintain, expand and update your skills and knowledge throughout your career. Undertaking CPD helps you build on the skills you’ve acquired and remain relevant and competitive as the finance landscape evolves.
It's vital that finance professionals stay up to date with the latest legislative and technical training, and gain those all-important "impact" skills that help you to stand out from the crowd: negotiation, presentation, data analytics, ethics.
How to undertake CPD
You're likely already undertaking CPD. If you've read an article, been in a webinar, listened to a podcast or had a one-to-one meeting at work relating to your role, that all counts.
Get started with four steps
Plan: Assess the gaps in your knowledge and find out where you could build on your skills to be more effective in your role.
Do: Undertake activities that will support you to achieve this goal, whether that's attending a conference, reading an article or watching a video. If it helps you to achieve your learning goals, it counts.
Review: Take time to reflect on your learning. Is it working? Has it helped you achieve your goal? Do you need to rethink your goals?
Record: Make a note of the CPD you undertake so you can easily review your plan and demonstrate you’ve taken steps to increase your understanding.
