A pathway to further education

Completing our qualifications offers you entry to several further study options, opening your path even more to a career in accounting.

Once you've completed the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, you'll be able to join the Level 8 Undergraduate programme at year one at selected universities.

The Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians (L4PAT) is equivalent to a Level 6 qualification. This may enable you to join a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance degree at year two at selected universities.

All five units in L4PAT are mandatory, including the Principles of Taxation unit. In Malaysia and Cyprus, UK tax content may not reflect the tax knowledge learners need for local practice. To support students in these countries, AAT will offer a guaranteed 50% discount on the tax unit exemption fee where students complete a recognised local tax unit with another provider and use this as part of their exemption application.

As well as AAT qualifications providing a pathway into chartered accountancy, those who wish to pursue their career in tax will gain exemptions from the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM). Also, completing the Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians will make you eligible for exemptions from CTIM exams.

Study local taxation with AAT

The Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians includes a UK Principles of Tax (PTAX) unit. Recognising that Malaysian tax knowledge is more relevant for many learners and employers, AAT offers approved local taxation pathways in Malaysia.

If you successfully complete an approved local tax programme, you can apply for an exemption from the PTAX unit. Eligible students can benefit from a 50% discount on the PTAX exemption fee.

This means you can achieve an internationally recognised AAT qualification while developing taxation knowledge that is directly relevant to the Malaysian workplace.

How and where to study

You can study in the classroom or through distance learning with an approved AAT training provider based in Malaysia. Do it in the evening, part-time or full-time, whatever suits you.
