AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) can today announce that it has become a Disability Confident Committed Employer.

The Government-run Disability Confident scheme, signed by some 13,000 organisations across the UK, supports employers to make the most of the talents that disabled people can bring to workplaces. Specifically, the scheme is designed to help employers recruit, retain and develop disabled workers – while in turn demonstrating their recognition of the values and talents disabled people can bring.

This is the latest in a series of commitments AAT has made in recent years to underline the organisation’s stance on being fair, inclusive and diverse. AAT signed the Women in Finance Charter back in November 2016, along with the Tech Talent Charter in February this year.

Olivia Hill, Chief HR Officer, AAT said:

“AAT has a strong track record of supporting diversity, not only within our own organisation but also of employers represented throughout our 130,000-strong member base.

As a Disability Confident Committed Employer, AAT is committed to making a difference for disabled people, along with providing any reasonable adjustments they may require and supporting existing employees who acquire or have a disability to stay in work.

“We encourage our members, and the wider accounting industry, to also consider signing the charter and help make a difference in the lives of disabled people.”

Justin Tomlinson, Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work said: “Every business trying to stay ahead of their competitors should aim to take advantage of the huge amount of talent disabled people can bring. While disabled employment is at an all-time high, we are ambitious to do more to ensure that every disabled person has the opportunity to succeed at work and every business has the opportunity to prosper.”
