Find the best qualification for you

If you want to understand what level of study to start at based on your experience in the sector, try our Qualifications Navigator tool. It will recommend a level after two or three questions.

Use the Qualifications Navigator.

Or you can try Skillcheck, a knowledge-based test. It takes around 30 minutes to complete, and will recommend the qualifications and levels suitable for you.

Use AAT Skillcheck.

Exemptions from sitting assessments

You may be eligible for exemptions if you have:

  • previous finance or accounting qualifications that you achieved no more than six years ago, or
  • an accounting or finance degree.

You can't apply for exemption for a whole level. You can achieve a maximum of 50% of a level through exemption.

Finding an AAT approved training provider

Use our training provider search, where you can filter by method of study, location and qualification.

Note that training provider fees are separate from AAT registration fees.

Studying without a training provider

Most students need support from a tutor, and we encourage all students to register with an approved training provider for the best chance of success.

However, if you feel you're confident in studying without tutor support, you can self-study. You’ll need to buy AAT textbooks or choose a self-study package with a training provider to work through our units.

You’ll still need to register with AAT, which will give you access to study support on our AAT Lifelong Learning Portal and allow you to sit assessments.

You’ll also need to find an approved assessment venue to sit assessments, depending on the qualification you study.

Student loans and the AAT Bursary

Students may be eligible for loans to cover tuition fees and living costs, and those with a child, disability or an adult dependant may qualify for extra funding. Full-time or part-time study is eligible, although the types and amounts of student finance received will depend on where you live, and the type of course.

We're delighted to be able to offer a bursary to financially disadvantaged people, giving them the opportunity to change their lives with an AAT qualification.
