There are two stages to AAT’s enquiries and appeals procedure: Stage 1 (review) and Stage 2 (appeal). A Stage 1 review must be completed before a Stage 2 appeal can be requested, except in the case of an appeal against a MRP decision.
At Stage 1, one of two types of review can be requested: a Basic Review or a Full Review.
Basic Review
A Stage 1: Basic Review checks all the clerical procedures that lead to a result being issued. This includes making sure that:
- all questions within the assessment have been marked
- all marks have been taken into consideration and, where applicable, percentage scores and grades have been issued correctly
- any reasonable adjustment or special consideration allowances have been applied, where applicable.
Please note that a Stage 1: Basic Review does not include any consideration of your answers in the assessment; this is only undertaken if you request a Stage 1: Full Review.
If you would like to proceed with a Stage 1: Basic Review, please complete Form EA1A and select Basic Review in Section 1. The fee for this service is £17.
You may request a review of one or more results within the timescale. Training providers and employers may request a Stage 1: Basic Review for a group of two or more students. If so, please complete Form EA1B. The fee for this service is £17 per student, per assessment.
Full Review
Request a Stage 1: Full Review:
- if you are unhappy with the outcome from a Stage 1: Basic Review, or
- for the same reasons as a Stage 1: Basic Review, with the addition of a more detailed review of your assessment script, including a review of any human marked tasks.
AAT will include all the checks made for a Stage 1: Basic Review unless this has already been undertaken. In addition, AAT will conduct a detailed review of your assessment and provide feedback on your performance in each task. Human-marked tasks taken as part of a computer-based assessment will be reviewed by someone who was not involved in the original marking.
A Stage 1: Basic Review does not need to be completed before a Stage 1: Full Review is requested.
If you'd like to proceed with a Stage 1: Full Review, please complete Form EA1A and select Full Review in Section 1. The fee for this service is £37.
You may request a review of one or more results within the timescale. Training providers and employers may request a Stage 1: Full Review for a group of two or more students. If so, please complete Form EA1B. The fee for this service is £37 per student, per assessment.
Timeline
- Students, training providers or employees are required to submit an EA1A or EA1B form within ten business days from the date a result is released or the outcome of a Stage 1: Basic Review is received.
- The Assessment Operations team will confirm receipt of the form and if payment was not included, an invoice will be placed on the appropriate account and a member of AAT will send an email instructing payment to be made within ten business days.
- If either the form or payment is not received within this timeframe, the enquiry request may not be accepted.
- The outcome of an enquiry will be communicated via email back to the requester in line with the following timescales:
- within ten business days from the date full payment is received for a Stage 1: Basic Enquiry
- within 20 business days from the date full payment is received for a Stage 1: Full Enquiry.
- If the outcome of the enquiry is found in favour of the requester, this will be corrected and a full refund of all fees paid as part of the enquiries process will be issued.
