TP Approval

If you’re planning to deliver AAT’s new L4PAT qualification, your training provider’s main contact will need to submit an approval request. This requirement applies to all training providers, including those already approved to deliver the current Q2022 Level 4 qualification.

Training Provider's should not be undertaking any formal teaching/ or learning prior to the operational start date of September 2026. Any centre would be at risk of sanctions, if we made aware, as they are only approved to offer the qualification from Tuesday 1 September. For example, if teaching/learning did take place and there were then subsequent complaints about the teaching or failing of assessments and we were aware then this would highlight to the regulator that we allowed this practice to take place and put at risk AAT's compliance.

For guidance and clarification, an example list is shown below that define activities that do not constitute formal delivery, and those that do constitute formal delivery. Training Providers should review these to ensure internal alignment.

Please note this is provided as examples but not an exhaustive list.

Activities Permitted Prior to Tuesday 1 September 2026 (Not Formal Delivery)

These activities are administrative, preparatory, or low intensity engagement that do not teach or assess the Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians curriculum content.

Transitional arrangements

These transitional arrangements exist to allow students who are registered on the Q2022 qualification to retain and transfer any relevant learning and assessments to the new L4 qualification.

The below table sets out how students registered on the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting (Q2022) can transfer onto the new AAT Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians. There is no limit on the number of units transferred from Q2022, however a minimum of one Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians assessment must be completed to gain the L4PAT qualification.

Please note a £50.00 transfer fee will apply to transition to the new qualification. To be eligible for the transfer fee you must be registered on the Q2022 Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting.

Transitioning from AQ2016 qualifications to Q2022

We can only accept transitions from one qualification standard. This means assessments completed under AQ2016 will not transition to the Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians.

If this applies to your students, we suggest you encourage them to continue and complete their current Q2022 qualification to avoid losing progress.
