AAT's reinstatement policy

Former AAT members who've applied to reinstate their membership will be subject to AAT’s Reinstatement policy (PDF).

Student membership

If you registered on an AAT qualification before 1 September 2022 and have a lapsed student membership, you can no longer reinstate it.

Register on the equivalent level under the current syllabus, Qualifications 2022, to continue your studies:

Affiliate membership

We no longer offer affiliate membership. 

If your affiliate membership has lapsed and you’d like to rejoin AAT, apply to become either an AAT bookkeeping member (AATQB) or full member (MAAT).

Bookkeeping membership (AATQB)

If you've previously been an AAT bookkeeping member, you can't reinstate your membership, but you can reapply online to join us again. You must provide details of the CPD you have completed in the past 12 months to ensure that your skills and knowledge are up to date

Any learning, development, training, or experience that helps you to remain competent in your job or advance your career can be counted as CPD.

This can include:

  • participation in workshops
  • going on training courses 
  • attending conferences
  • learning new software packages
  • planned coaching from colleagues or specialists
  • research and use of online resources.

Fees applicable until 31 August 2024:

  • Annual membership fee: £132
  • Reinstatement fee: none

Fees applicable from 1 September 2024:

  • Annual membership fee: £134
  • Reinstatement fee: none

This must be paid by credit or debit card on application. Once you've reinstated your membership, you can set up a Direct Debit for future membership fee payments.

Full (MAAT) membership

If you've previously been an AAT full member, apply online to join us again. You must provide details of the CPD you have completed in the past 12 months to ensure that your skills and knowledge are up to date

Any learning, development, training, or experience that helps you to remain competent in your job or advance your career can be counted as CPD.

This can include:

  • participation in workshops
  • going on training courses 
  • attending conferences
  • learning new software packages

Fees applicable from 1 September 2024:

Fellow (FMAAT) membership

If you've previously been an AAT fellow member and want to join us again, complete the Fellow membership reinstatement form. You must provide details of the CPD you have completed in the past 12 months to ensure that your skills and knowledge are up to date

Any learning, development, training, or experience that helps you to remain competent in your job or advance your career can be counted as CPD.

This can include:

  • participation in workshops
  • going on training courses 
  • attending conferences
  • learning new software packages
  • planned coaching from colleagues or specialists
  • research and use of online resources.

Annual membership fee: £197 Reinstatement fee: £56

Fees applicable from 1 September 2024:

Annual membership fee: £200 Reinstatement fee: £57

Once we've received your application we'll send you an email within ten working days, with details of how to pay the fees online. Your application won't be assessed until payment has been made.

Once you've reinstated your membership, you can set up a Direct Debit for future membership fee payments.

AAT licensed membership

You can apply to reinstate your licence within 12 months of your renewal due date.

Fee

The fee, whether reinstating or applying for a new licence, is £56 for both Licensed Accountants and Licensed Bookkeepers until 31 August 2024. From 1 September 2024, this fee will be £57.

You'll also need to pay the annual licence fee.

If you're an existing AAT full, bookkeeping, fellow or affiliate member this will be a pro rata amount to your next renewal. For example, if your existing membership renewal is due six months after your licence approval, you'll pay a pro rata licence fee for six months, meaning 50% of the full licence fee.
If you're not an existing AAT member you'll need to pay the full annual licence fee:
 

Fees applicable until 31 August 2024:

Licensed Bookkeepers: £176 Licensed Accountants: £336.

Fees applicable from 1 September 2024:

Licensed Bookkeepers: £179
Licensed Accountants: £341.

We are unable to reinstate your licence until payment has been received. Payment cannot be made by Direct Debit.

Refunds

The fee for registering or reinstating as a student member of AAT is non-refundable. The fee for applying or reinstating for full or fellow membership is also non-refundable. For more information see the AAT refunds policy.
